Yes, Metallica HAS been opening shows with the song since 1983. But, the version that was played was a recording of Ennio Morricone's version. It was not performed by the band until 1999 on the S&M album, which all you die hard Metallica fans know was, with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. In 2007 Metallica FINALLY recorded their rendition of the masterpiece for a tribute album entitled "We All Love Ennio Morricone". Sorry if I come off as a know-it-all. That is not my intention. I didn't hear the setup or title for the Dj. It just sounded like the introduction for one badass song.
