I'm sentimental
So I walk in the rain
I've got some habits
That I can't explain
Could start for the corner
Turn up in Spain
Why try to change me now
I sit and daydream
I've got daydreams galore
Cigarette ashes
There they go on the floor
I go away weekends
And leave my keys in the door
But why try to change me now
Why can't I be more conventional
People talk
People stare
So I try
But that's not for me
Cuz I can't see
My kind of crazy world
Go passing me by
So let people wonder
Let 'em laugh
Let 'em frown
You know I'll love you
Till the moon's upside down
Don't you remember
I was always your clown
Why try to change me now
Don't you remember
I was always your clown
Why try to change me
Why try to change me now

Review about Why Try to Change Me Now My first love song | Reviewer: Mike | 7/11/2008
In 1952, when I was seventeen, this song was special for my first love. Now, fifty-six years later, the lyrics still are exactly right for a gay love song recorded during a tortured era. I was astonished to see them interpreted here otherwise, since it's so obvious.
The words are all wrong | Reviewer: jane sen | 4/30/2008
I'm sad that you have the words wrong, what would he have thought of it! It's a lovely song, lovely words, reflecting the life of some people who are married to control freaks. Sad that you could not even pick up on the correct words. I take shorthand at 100 wpm to I suppose I have an advantage there. However I just need to listen to a track to get the gyst of the words & the meaning.
It tells part of my life | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/30/2008
Describes a sentimental average kind of man. Some women would just get annoyed with him but some (like me) would just love to have a man like that. No fuss, no stress, just chill. I have echoed the words of this song throughout my marriage to a man who always wanted to change me and control me - the lyrics mirror real life.
