My version | Reviewer: Amy | 2/3/10
The great thing about songs like these are that they mean so much to people even though everyone relates to them a little differently. I relate to it because I had a friend who went through something really tragic and I tried to be there for her as much as possible. However, I eventually realized that she took me for granted and saw what she wanted to instead of what was real. That's a VERY simplified version of things, but suffice it to say that every verse of this song relates to that situation. The melody as well as Maynard's vocals embody pain and frustration to a tee. Beautifully done.
It could be | Reviewer: DMC | 2/5/10
I love this song! Perfect for when you're feeling a little (or a lot) sorry for yourself. It COULD be about his mother, a lot of his songs are. Most of his songs have multiple meanings too. But as awesome as Maynard is, the song is nothing if it doesn't mean something to you too - so as long as it makes you feel good, it could be anything for you.
Interpretation | Reviewer: John | 11/25/09
I relate this song to having an interest in a lady who has no interest back. You feel like you truly see her, throw her the obvious, but she never picks it up.
Ultimately, she will never see you.
This life, just so overwhelmingly heartbreaking.

You said you thought this song was about his mother, Judith.
Actually, the song "Judith" is about his mother, and how he was criticizing her religious beliefs with the thought of how could "God" have done this to her when she had done nothing wrong. Very powerful song.
That said, my take on this song is that it has to be the most amazing song I've ever heard in my life. So many things I can relate to on this song, and the melody and Maynard's haunting voice add to the amazing finale to this song. This song fuels, inspirates and defines me. It is THE perfect song for me.

Coming from an interview I saw, he said that he has known 8 libras in his life that all were similar in that they did not understand him and such. He said that he called it 3 libras so as to make them guess who he's talking about.

This song has seen me through so much emotionally, and i understand and interpret the lyrics to my own ends, but it has never ceased to make me stop and close my eyes whenever i hear it play, it is by rights my favourite song of all time, and i dont think i will ever hear anything quite as beautiful. i remember when i first heard it i must have listened to the song on repeat about 200 times, just because of the way it made me feel. It brings to my eyes an image of a jilted paradise. Nothing comes close to this for me!
Today... 3 Libras | Reviewer: Fenix | 9/27/09
I've played this song probably about 5 times today.. I am bitter too. My (now ex) and have been going through an agonizing break for the last 3 months. She never saw me, really SAW me and at the same time she continually tried to convince me that I was the mean, hateful, selfish person that she believed me to be. Sadly she won some of the battles and those embers are still smoldering, She almost has me convinced that I have F'd the whole world...her lover who adored her and would do anything for her- she never saw me, but I see her now. No excuses, but she is wounded, and even still today accuses me of F'ng every guy that she has ever seen me have a conversation with. Disappointed, absolutely because I still love her and through her insanity, she justified sneaking around and lying to me about another female. Passed over.... obviously. 4 years... !! And I still love her. even after the last time we had sex she wouldn't even look me in the eyes... said kissing me was too intimate. See through... she is a user and that is how she has made it her whole life. She charms, and then bites. and manipulates.. and kills.

To the 8/7/09 reviewer - he actually said, "If this song sounds bitter, it's because it is... and I am.". It's from a very popular bootleg that materialized about a month after the album came out... I want to say Mesa, AZ.

With what MJK reflects on in aMOTION aside...The beauty, complexity and even more salient, sorrow of this song are without compare. As others have said, music is an interpretation...inherently subjective. Although feelings are universal...Perspective is not. Being 29, recently single, and just starting a PhD program (5 years)...I would say I am off the traditional path. I define myself, and have thus chosen psychology as my profession, by my relationships. I use...I manipulate...because they let me...but i cry...but I care...This song is a testament to every person that I have ever been with...empty. Empty in a sense of the relationship...not her...maybe me? I can play nice/bad...I can get laid...but I want more...I want to be understood - I want to cry I want to love I want to be embraced after the fact...But I look in all the wrong places...A 20 y/o addict...a 21 y/o unemotional "girl"...28 unintelligent...27 completely co-dependent...I feel them. I don't feel real around them. I don't feel passionate about them. I know this and I think, on some level, they do as well...It makes me wonder if I ever actually want to be figured out or if on some morbid level I enjoy considering myself to be an enigma - but hey we all think we are unique right? I swore to myself that I would never settle...I live for other people's opinions and interpretations and utterly hope that other people find such feeling in this song...breathe

this song is about 3 of his ex girlfriends. that hurt him. 3 libra's being a metaphor a doubt that they were all libra's. I had a chance to seem him play right by his home town, and he he said this "this next song might sound bitter, cuz it is, cuz i am" then he said someone about 2 of the 3 libras bein in the house tonight. its on youtube the performance i believe.
Comma | Reviewer: Tulks | 7/13/09
I always thought this song was about Maynard's mother Judith Marie, who fell into a deep comma at the age of thirty because of a series of aneurysms who later on claimed her life.
Independently what the song really means, it's still as powerful as anything I've ever heard before.
Many times it brings tears to my eyes.

whenever i listen to this song, i enter a trance.. i try to understand what this song really means.. after some time, i realized that this song explains how a person feels to be used and to be 'invisible' to the person he/she loves..
for three years ive been courting this girl.. i 'threw her the obvious'..
oh how i loved her so much..
i even carved her name in my chest..
'Difficult not to feel a little bit
Disappointed and passed over' because even though ive done everything to make her see 'through the eyes of a fallen angel'...
she seems 'naked but oblivious' to my feelings..
so here i am, still 'expecting just a little bit' in return..
but 'Apparently nothing, nothing at all'...
'she doesnt see me,she doesnt see me at all'...
Hmmmm | Reviewer: riagem | 5/20/09
In my opinion, it seems as though this woman has been "tagged" by her own past relationships. She has been stripped of everything that she thought validated her identity. I think that she was cognitively intelligent, but oblivious in grasping what true love is. After years of being humiliated, demeaned, and "thrown away"- she finally has no choice but to look at herself, naked and afraid. That rawness jolted her heart and soul, and a memory of a love in her life that made her the happiest though it was brief- the one she sabotaged due to fear. Her oblivious nature has blossomed to a full awareness and now just knowing. Does God have anything to do with all of that? Yes. Does the live of her life has anything to do with it? Yes. Does loving herself have anything to do with it? Yes. But that's just my thought on it.
Maynards Genius | Reviewer: Dawn | 4/27/09
Maynard has his way of constructing his lyics. He also has a huge sense of humor (Die Eier von Santan)? But in this one, Maynard explained this song in their aMotion DVD, he said that this is a song about parasitic-like people seeing something different or special about a person. Instead of nurturing that quality or helping that person grow, the "3 Libras" feed off of the energy in a bad way instead of using it for good. He also said that he wrote the song for about 9 or so people in his life that have birthdays around the same time, hence the name "3 Libras". Let them figure out who the parasites are.

this song has such a strong meaning for me... 6 years ago i was deeply (probably for the first time ) in love with the man who would eventually be the father of my son. we both shared a love of tool and apc and all of maynard's art. ours was a stormy relationship and i often wept silently to myself by his side without him ever noticing making the lyrics ever more poignant. to this day the song makes my heart ache in a way no other can. so bittersweet...
