You guys all seem very open minded to the interpretation of this song, and I agree. I think it means whatever you want it to, personally this song means everything and anything to me. This song is definitely my favorite song possibly of all time... I especially enjoyed the violins. I don't usually post on these kinds of things but this song really means a lot to me.

i thought long and hard to these words looking for any deep meaning or something even shallow now knowing maynard hes not actually talking about love but addiction but for the benefit of the doubt and because i dont want people pissed at me lets say this song is about a woman if you examine the words "threw you the obvious and you flew with it on your back" ok so he gave "her" his signs and she brushed them off ignored them as she has done before to many then he goes into jealousy and lonliness feeling empty without "her" cause with other people then he goes into how shes to hurt to ever return the feeling but this desperate persona is an act which he sees through...i mean idk i think that sounds right

...is just like every other song with meaning. He felt something when he wrote this, and people feel something when they hear it. Pour your heart into this song, interpret it as you will(no one is wrong) and let your soul manifest itself as you sing, with everything you have.

This song has meaning to what ever you'd imagine it to be. This song, to me, is about looking up to someone, looking to someone who isn't paying attention to you, "threw you the obvious."
The "eyes of a fallen angel" could simplify into sorrow.
God? Satan? I don't see any reflections of that in this song what so ever. Real religion does not flow through this peice what so ever.

I love this song. this has to be one of the saddest deepest songs ive ever herd. i get chills and almost want to cry every time i hear it. i don't fully understand all of the lyrics but i do for the most part. this song just touches me maybe because i am a Libra i dont know but it just makes me think of somebody trying to give you there all in a relationship because of there love for you and them getting nothing in return which is very sad to me. and kinda hits home for me. such a beautiful song.

All of you who think this song is about god........ obviously you dont listen to much of maynard at all. Ever hear Judith...Its on the same damn cd or what about opiate or sober. why dont you all go listen to everything maynard has done and then say that he wrote this song about god YOU FUCKING IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My interpretation | Reviewer: insanefrogprince | 11/24/07
A few years back I thought about suicide. I gave up on the idea that God loves us all. I fell to my knees and was willing to give my soul to Satan, if only he would love me. I was ready to die just to feel love, a purpose to life. That’s when I realized Satan couldn’t love me anymore then God had loved him. I saw Satan next to me, just as blind as I was to the truth that there is nothing, no God. Love is a false feeling that can’t be reached. And I think this song is telling the same story, of someone trying to reach out to only find himself reaching out to nothing. We want there to be a deep meaning to life, but there really is none. We live. We die.

I live in Pakistan and i rmbr the first time i heard this song and i was blown away..it came on tv n i went and downloaded it and listened to all night and iam talking abt a few years back but this is one song that has a special meaning and a special feeling for me cause i kan always rely on this song to express t o myself the many ways iam feeling...n too other ppl... especially this part "Here I am expecting just a little bit
Too much from the wounded
But I see, see through it all
See through, see you"...!Fantastic.. its a tradegy for me that bands like a perfect cirlce and dave mathew, or alice in chains or ne of the great bands ever performed in this part of the world and i really feel like my 24 yrs of existence has been deprived of an amazing experience...!
No one knows | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/2/07
I think everyone could TRY and speculate exactly what this song means....At the end of it all I don't think anyone can figure out what goes on in Maynards head. Some of his messages are so cryptic, and others are just humor. Maybe it's all a big joke. Who knows. He is a comical character that believes in challenging authority.
Let's see what we know. Libra, (a sign in the zodiace for those of you who don't know) is ruled by the planet Venus. Venus as we all know is the planet of love and beauty. Women are referred to as being "from Venus". Men are from "Mars". If you hsve seen the video for 3 Libras, you will notice 3 WOMAN in the video. There are also messages of childhood, and the womb. The undertones of motherhood, the womb, and Maynards expressions of his own experiences are all over the album, not just this song.
The meaning of it all? Who knows. Again I think we can only speculate what we think the meaning may be. I think the most important of the meaning is in the emotion of it all. Not just the words. This song has always created sadness in me. I had the oppurtunity to see this live. That experience changed my life, and the performance of this song made me cry......

My 20yr old daughter made me a mix CD with this on it, take your meds, Ms. "SATAN" Please! I realize that for her it's about our relationship... her father died when she was 2 days old, and I wasn't really myself "duh" wonder why that I didn't bond with my child the way I should have...After I had been gone for several years trying to make a life for us I came back into her "life" and moved her to Florida into a brand new home with all the things she could want. She threw me all the obvious and both of us expected alot from each other she really is the tragedy and I am the fallen angel since she was only 17 when she left, I was only 17 when she was born...Her dad died while I was in the hospital giving birth to her. He held her once then went home to prepare for our homecoming and died of an accident.
love this song, still cant help but like it... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/3/07
Id say its about "satan's" view of mankind, the fallen angel, (messes with people, who dont see how he tempts them with sin, controlling their lives...) makes sense, hes a fallen angel, he feels passed over by God and is jealous of the love god feels for humans. he definitely doesnt think humans are worthy of gods love and is trying to prove that by how easily he is able to manipulate them. tempt them with the "apple"
and watch them fall into his trap.
Amazing | Reviewer: SHIEB | 10/2/07
