It's not even that religious. You can like things that have religious undertones without committing yourself to religion itself. If music is beautiful or the words meaningful to you, does it matter? The lyrics are heartfelt and have a lot of meaning into it. I love the music and the lyrics. When I'm depressed and I listen to this song, it makes me have an urge to sing along. In my opinion, I don't think this song is "emo". Even though this is supposed to be a sad song, I think that "emo" isn't the word for it.
