IS he with her exclusively? Is she with someone else and unaware he's alive? This is for the listener to interject themselves. For whatever reason she doesnt love him...once again: unaware he exists? did the girl love him once but has stopped in favor of a new girl? the singer feels terrible about this. his world is ending and its like theres a crack in the earth that can never be filled with enough tears, but it doesnt matter because he feels so wretched that he's past the crying point. he quits caring about himself and either through slow means (drinking heavily, getting into fights...) or quick (OD, cutting, noose...) he tries to reduce his existence to nothingness...nothing is better than pain but then he meets another girl. maybe the broken jaw is real. shocking traumatic events can bring someone back from the brink, like a slap in the face to someone with an anxiety attack. he sees that and appreciates what he has...the girl likes him too and he begins to love her....with a new intensity. its like hes a new person. time stops. he becomes a new person. its a BC/AD type of event in his life and the clocks and the calendars bear the brunt of him paradigm shift, his old life is over....and thus the clocks and calendars of days past. He has a new life now. The old calendars and clocks have no further function for him. he's bought new ones, to keep the time and mark the days of his new life. the sun has risen on this man's life....he made it through the dark and his new existence is his reward. sometimes unrequited love and rejection lead to a better existence...like a tatoo on your soul the trauma is painful and permanent. But it will make you who you are, it will make you better, and it will allow you to fully appreciate your new love. There is so much emotion in this song, both lyrically and musically, and he's able to get it out without being overly ridiculous (If Winter Ends, I'm looking in your direction...). But yeh, I think it is the "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine" from the childrens song as later on it says "You make my happy, oh when skies are grey." Which is also from the song.
