The Review is about Carbon Leaf | 07/11/2007 11:00:00 AM
inspired lyrics
i first heard carbon leaf on the radio with their hit song "life less ordinary". then i saw them at virginia tech with my daughter - a freshman at the university - little more than a week after the tragic shootings. usually i find that i like 2 - maybe 3 - songs of any given group, but as carbon leaf performed song after song i discovered that i really enjoyed every one of them. not only are they musical in a world of 'artists' who sometimes do nothing but bang guitars and scream, but their lyrics are very compelling. so while i was at the VT performance i bought 3 of their CD's. since then i've listened to each one several times and each time i discover something new in the lyrics. carbon leaf's writing touches the heart and soul with intelligent, metaphoric verses. i've become a huge carbon leaf fan; a groupie of sorts. saw them last week in northern virginia and i'm seeing them again in 2 weeks in NC. i'm lucky to live in their home state of VA and i expect i'll see them at least a few more times.
oh, and these guys have integrity and character, and they're among the most humble and caring artists i can think of. not only did they perform for nearly 2 hours at the virginia tech event, but they donated their entire fee from the night to the VT memorial fund. if their music wasn't already enough to make me a devoted fan, that act of generosity and kindness forever endeared them to me.
but don't take my word for it. like the next guy, i'm 49 years old. however, my taste in music more closely resembles that of my teenage daughters. but i am a former musician so i appreciate the true quality of this band's work. listen to them. see them. you too will become a fan. |
