God DOES give and take away... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/23/06
Satan can not do anything to us without first okaying it with God. So even though God may not directly take away from us, he does allow Satan to do so. God PROMISES Christians that they WILL face trials and tribulations and temptations:
Rom 5:3 And not only [so], but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; Rom 5:4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
Jam 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Jam 1:3 Knowing [this], that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Jam 1:4 But let patience have [her] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Jam 1:12 Blessed [is] the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
And any person who doesn't belive that our God is a jealous God, a vengeful God, and dishes out wrath, should read all of Romans. People and especially Christians should not forgot God the Father of the Old Testament. The God that smited people, the God that had to be begged by Moses to spare the people he delivered from Egypt.
Of course Jesus Christ who came to earth (God the son) was not of this nature because he was to be the perfect sacrifice to deliver us from our sins and the penalty of death.
It bothers me these days when Christians want nothing but the sugar coated version of the Bible and refuse to acknowledge the full Trinity of God and all that our God is.
God has to put us through trials and tribulations, otherwise we become complacent in our lives. Why look to God when everything is going perfectly? We have trials to strengthen our faith and to remind us how much we need God.
I LOVE this song!
God Bless...
He is there in the midst of everything | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/16/06
He will stop at nothing to build Christ into us. No matter what befalls, He is there and He is worthy of praise. Incredible song!
God allows things to be taken away | Reviewer: Linda | 3/13/06
I am currently in the middle of a storm. God did allow this storm to happen which involves my husband leaving me. I have grown a lot during this storm. This growth would not have happened if God didn't take away my security.
If God doesn't take away, how to you explain God wiping out families because they didn't obey Him. I don't believe that every bad thing that happens in our lives is do to sin, but God does punish us by taking things away. Just as we do not like having to discipline our children, but do it for their own good, God does the same for us.
takes away has other meanings | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/6/06
RE: He gives and takes away. I have always viewed this statement as God giving us good things like salvation and hope and taking away the bad things in our lives like pain, despair, etc. This song is a song of hope and reassurance that God is always there loving us.
I love this song! | Reviewer: Bailey | 2/13/06
I believe that God does give and take away... there has to be a balance to everything. This is an amazing song about worshiping God through the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between. The fact that He gives and takes away is not sending out a bad message about Christians. I love this song and I believe with all my heart that if you're going through a bad time God will bless you through this song! God Bless!
Does God really give and then take away? (read John 10:10) | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/30/06
Why do people continue to quote Job, an Old Testament servant, who didn't truly understand who was the source of his trials and pain?
Does God really give and then take away? Is that really the God that Jesus Christ presented to the world when He walked this earth? Not at all.
In fact, Jesus stated that He came not to destroy men's lives, but to save them (Luke 9:56). Jesus also stated that the thief, Satan, is the one only comes to take away, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).
The book of James proclaims that God is the giver of every good and perfect gift and that God never changes (James 1:17).
So why is this false statement, "The Lord gives and the Lord takes away," made at almost every funeral and gravesite? Why is this false statement about God made during nearly every time of tragedy and loss?
Why do Christians continue to present a schizophrenic God to a lost and dying world? The world is in desperate need of someone that they can love and trust, not someone that they believe might strike them with cancer at any given moment or kill their newborn baby in a car accident. People need hope and confidence, not strange doctrines that send confusing signals about our loving God.
God is NOT the one who gives and then takes away.
God loves us and He's not mad at us.
