The Reviews about Rootless Tree (page 1/ 3)
------ performed by Damien Rice
Analysis of Rootless Tree | Reviewer: Jason | 8/1/09
This song is obviously about a breakup. The speaker is conflicted, because he doesn't want his significant other to leave, but knows that she just doesn't love him. He wants the truth, but has difficulty dealing with the consequences.
It's a sad and frustrating time when one discovers that the person that they have cared about no longer feels the same.
Meanings and stuff... | Reviewer: Robbie K | 7/29/09
Anybody else think that he may have been singing about the breakdown of his relationship with Lisa Hannigan when he wrote this?
I have a feeling (just based on my own instinct though..) that he is/was deeply in love with her, but it wasn't reciprocated..hence the "It's hell when you are around" lyric.
Can't have been easy to work with someone professionally that you have unrequainted feelings for!
meaning | Reviewer: nb | 7/28/09
p.s. this song is about jerking off as a means to get over a past relationship... the verses that talk about a rootless tree are about post ejaculation. that whole "process" is a metaphor for emptying yourself of feelings of your ex. the sexual tensions that are tied to those feelings, and what not.
My last name? | Reviewer: Kari | 7/26/09
I am the one that submitted these lyrics. Below the lyrics it says "Thanks to Kari for submitting the lyrics." but I want to know how one the reviewers knew my last name as well. "good work Kari Fernandez for submitting the lyrics" because that IS my last name...I just want to know how they knew that.
great song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/2/09
I think this song portrays a love hate relationship, something that some of us may have experience. You ever hate someone so much, yet your still in love with them? He keeps asking to let him out of it.
Amazing. | Reviewer: Deanna | 4/2/09
Being only sixteen I can't say that I've heard so many great songs or that I've heard many artists with raw talent, because I know that I haven't experienced a whole lot of music and the great talent in the industry yet. Damien Rice though, he is amazing. I can't compare him to anyone and I cannot even begin to write how much of a lyrical and musical insparation he is. Like I said, I cannot clain to know all in this industry but I do know that Damien is such a unique, talented artist and deserves so much praise for his work.
This song is so powerful. I was shocked to hear him swear but I think that makes this song just add a slight more emotional edge to it.
pleasantly surprised | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/8/09
when i first heard him sing 'fuck you' i was quite surprised. though i'm not partial to swearing, it suits the rawness and passion of this song so much, i don't think it be quite the same without it.
