I like this song. | Reviewer: MissKDM | 5/29/09

I like this song. I'm into any genre really. The chorus is good. But when it got to the monologue bit, it kinda got to me. I understand his feelings but it was kind of scary. I wanna ask, did he kill his mother or something? I guess people just don't know when to quit until the person that they're torturing snaps and beat them up - and in worst case, kill them? I like this song. (=

What i think it means | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/14/09

I think that this song shows how he feel about how he was treated as a child...i think that it shows what he was feeling like on the inside it also shows his relationship with his mother and how he felt about her i believe that even after all the bad things that had happened he still loved her but the only reason that he hated her was because she didnt exactly love him back i believe that all he wanted was a little bit more emotion from his mother he just wanted her to show him that she actually loved him....Anyways thats what i think this song is somewhat about altho i cant say for sure cus i dont personly know the person that wrote it but I LOVE disturbed they are amazing and this is one of my favorite songs by them cus i can in a way kida relate to it..... =) Goodnight everyone....

most people have the wrong idea | Reviewer: anonymous | 3/30/09

when people here a song they mostly tend to get a wrong impression. A song can be many things even if it has some language, it still has a purpous. the first time i heard this song i was not sure what it was all about, until i actually took time to listen to it. overall it is a kick butt song and i hope DISTURBED comes out with many more songs.

in regards to JNAtheDUDE | Reviewer: Tara Strosin | 3/28/09

In regards to JNAtheDUDE yes that is what the song "Down With The Sickness" is about. In my perspective because of the lifestyle I am living. "Down With The Sickness" is about a spiritual transformation that is taking place and the confliction that is the effect of the cause of this nature. David is highly spiritual in his music. He is also very angry because of the consistent conflict he is battling. YES the battle that is being displayed at the end of the song is "Mother Culture" he explained it in an interview. When one reaches the peak of a spiritual level in addition to proclaiming their individuality they are considered outcasts to society because they are different. And I quote from one of his interviews "And it's that state of things that 'disturbeds' us" Hence why the bands name is Disturbed.

The TRUE meaning of this song | Reviewer: JNAtheDUDE | 3/22/09

The real meaning of this song is about how hard it is for people today to accept people who are different, hence the slang term to "get down with the sickness". When he talks about his mother abusing him, he is talking about society, and how if you don't follow it's rules, you'll be outcast. When he gets to the part about him getting back at his mother, he is choosing to be different, and he doesn't care about what society thinks. That's the true meaning of this song.

Also, this song is badass. :)

My opinion | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/15/09

ok. well not a heavy metal fan but i agree that this song is powerful. This song is about the SINGER. HE WAS ABUSED AS A CHILD and is writing about his own experiences. I actually feel bad for him. The song is pretty disturbing and very powerful. Anyway i am pretty indifferent about the song but do think it is powerful. And some people are retarded for not knowing it is about the singer.

meaning | Reviewer: joshua | 2/11/09

About the song | Reviewer: MTF | 1/29/09

CoNcUsSiOn is right about the song, I understand that some people can't stand a idea about a monologue of a child who's being abused. Of course you can interpret a song in many ways, but it's a metal -genre band and lyrics fits perfectly if you interpret the song like CoNcUsSiOn did, which is the same that I have had in my mind. You may have heard many times how people who may not be even aggressive have killed somebody and have told they just snapped. Anyway I love this song, simply but very powerful intro, I just love to sing this song :I Perkele Suomi Finland Thank You

You do know that this is a personal song. The guy who wrote this actually was absued by his mother. Words are words- there is no vulgarity. Sometimes certain words are used becuase they are the absolute best way to express a certain emotion. There are no true synonyms- every word has its purpose. Theres nothing wrong with vulgarity, especially in this case.

this is my favorite disturbed song!! | Reviewer: CoNcUsSiOn | 1/8/09

well first off i wanna say FUCK YOU! the monologue about the abusive mother and child makes perfect sense for this song i mean the whole song is about that! if u look at the lyrics "the world is a scary place now that you've woken up the demon in me" matches with when the child goes off on his mom the demon was awakened by his mother. this song is about a person who has faced hardship of some kind by another person or object and that person or object caused the first person to finaly snap. now if that doesnt summarize the song i dont know wut does. also i love the intro best song intro EVER!!!!!

Vulgarity ain't special | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/4/09

Disturbed is a great band of musicians, but I think that the lyrics in this song do nothing but take away from the aspect. Vulgarity and personal attacks on someones own family member don't add anything special to the music. At least, that's my opinion.

dawg, this song is overrated | Reviewer: jim | 12/7/08

i really dont think this song is all that great
sure, its alright, MUCH better than any pre metal, pink floyd soft crap, pop, or any form of rap, but still
The monologue with the child cursing out his mother also DID NOT fit into the song WHATSOEVER and distracted me.... what kind of idiot would put a monologue in a song that didnt make it sound ANY better, or, in this case, much worse.

FUCKING AWESOME!!! | Reviewer: Nova | 12/2/08

next to "the game", this is the most awesome disturbed song ever. my parents walked into my room once when he started screaming in the middle of the song, you should have seen their faces. it was so funny, i nearly fell over laughing.

great song but... | Reviewer: ben | 10/29/08

i feel this song has been overplayed. go to wikipedia and see how many ways this song has been used. also i think there are more people who know/like down with the sickness for the laughing and coughing than there are people who know/likr the whole song. and just to respond to someone elses post, as a musical expert(at least in my mind), i find no similarities between this song and sugar or wait and bleed.
