I always understood it to say "I'm blue, I would die without E", but I've been seeing alot of interpretations of "I'm blue, I would die if I were green." Either one makes sense, it's an old song (well, not THAT old, but older), so I think it's fun to leave it up in the air, because then you never know WHO has the right interpretation; anyone can be right.
