The Reviews about Strung Out Again (page 1/1)
------ performed by Elliott Smith

You must be crazy, Masterful. I too indulge in pills every once in a while but I don't have a habit and a physical addiction. I have seen several friends become addicted to smack and it is a terrible, terrible thing. The desperation, the lying, the withdrawals, it's all terrible. People lose everything to heroin: their friends, their jobs, their enrollment in school, and if they've gone really far they can even lose their family after burning them too many times.

i hope you all know that elliott's girlfriend killed him...his last words were "it was'nt her" because he still loved her when she did it. elliott was an amazing person and one of the best songwriters ever. i know this because i am his nephew.

So So Masterful | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/18/07

This is indeed one of the greatest Elliott Smith songs... If people could just legalize drugs and let him use his opiates in peace, maybe he could have maintained sanity. The other drugs didn't help, of course, but opiates surely could have. They certainly helped this reviewer find peace.

This song is a slice of heaven. I'm sorry we coulddn't give you more of that here on earth. I would've helped you find the fruits of the poppy to ease your pain Elliott.

Anyhow, the screaching guitar over the ethereal climbing bass along with the airy vocals are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Elliott knew how to produce and these lyrics are very coherent and beautiful, unlike "A Distorted Reality..."

So, listen to this track, love it, and mourn the fact that we have, in this track, proof that Elliott had not peaked but was instead an ascending line, even 'til the moment he plunged that knife into himself.

Again, I apologize on behalf of the species for the psychiatrists who fed you crazy pills and the legislators who denied you safe access to the drugs (opiates) that were most likely to save you. And I'm sorry that using opiates had to feel like being strung out. I can happily tell you that when you never run out, you never have a problem!

RIP, I know what heaven feels like for men like us -- something like listening to this track on your beloved black balloons. I hope you can appreciate the beauty of your own tracks in heaven -- in fact, you must be able to. Otherwise it wouldn't be heaven.

Quantitative Review: 5/5

Again, absolutely amazing, electric Elliott at his best, wonderful lyrics, that screeching yet...soft high-fret doodling on the guitar, the building climb of the track being carried upwards by a bass guitar engine -- feels a lot like a Beatles track, like so much Elliott. Only better. The way the track drops into the instrumentation, the drumming and instruments throwing up their arms on the title line, and just before 'you get what you see'. 'I don't even want to know', that little bit off screeching guitar, and then again back to the 'I know my place' with the beautiful beautiful guitar...

Elliott always strikes a chord when he strikes a chord -- whether his lyrics grab you here as they grab me, the musicality of the song is undeniably powerful.

Elliott: you and your music are too Pretty for words! Only music would do. Sorry you couldn't get enough medicine.
