It seems to me that its about having what you cant have? I similarise it to a situation of my own, where I was seeing someone who was in a relationship, but was a renouned cheat - I was mad about him but knew he would move onto someone else if I let him go & hated that. I was replaceable (are you gone and onto someone new) Is someone getting the best of you? Its saying that someone else is getting a better part of that person, other than him. It to me is about getting used and abused by someone you care about and not sure how to free yourself. Hating the fact someone else is getting the better part of them.
stuck | Reviewer: goodtake | 12/30/10
In this song he is stuck in a wrong relationship, and he can either resist love or give in to it, only to be abused. Either way that someone is getting the best of him… He was looking for someone to lean on and heal (hold my head), his lover took him in, but with a trap (nooze). He was too weak to give in (would not let himself love her), and yet too strong to lose her (did not want to be alone). His heart is under arrest (he is stuck), his mind knows what’s right – to break it – yet it would feel like life or death. He must confess this truth (acknowledge) to move on, or that someone will keep getting the best of him…
Very moving song, he manages to conjure up so many conflicts in these short lyrics.

i think it's about guy's preparation for breaking up with girl.
he founded out that it's not what he thought all this time, and is asking himself should he keep trying with somebody new in some new place, or it will he keep that feeling of safety..
he ask himself is it worthy to go and try to catch perfect love, or stay here and try to satisfy himself with what he's got.
but, maybe i'm just subjectively looking on it.

Songs can be interpreted any way the listener wants.
I see the song as being about a guy trying to be the best he can be in life, but that stopping him from excepting a girls love and being in love with her. And if he carries on trying to be the best he can be in life he'll die inside or he excepts the girl love, she'll be the only one getting the best of him, but he will live on full spirited and happy. But he's too scared and "weak" to give into love and abandon he's goals of greatness. Also he's mad at the girl for tempting him with love because its messing with his reality.
Sad : (

for me the song is about a person who is constantly failling and saying he won't fall again but keeps on failling and is tired of starting again or changing his way of doing things , and he wishes to confess all his troubles and be at peace, the parts where he says if you want to resist or be abused is about maybe an addiction , alchol drugs.....
Best of You | Reviewer: Daniel | 8/24/10
Lyrics are always open to interpretations. I thought about this song in the sence of a relationship. The guy suspects his girl friend of having an affair or simply losing interest and not telling him for fear of hurting his feelings. This might not be what they were thinking when they wrote the song, but this is what I took it to mean.
I sort of agree with the last person who posted a review | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/19/10
I think this is about a young girl trying to deal with abuse, but I think it is told from an authority figure's point of view. I feel that a lot of the song is about the girl's mother or father trying to find out what's going on, because they know something's wrong, but they can't quite figure out what.
When the "I've got another confession, my friend" verse starts, I believe the father has basically figured out what's going on, but he wants proof first. The girl tells him, and I think Dave's final scream reflects his feelings very well.

all great reviews...but still means something different to me. I think its about a young girl dealing with abuse and keeping silent until she overcomes the pain and decides to move on. I am a tough guy and the song almost brings me to tears.

obvious meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/8/10
its relationships. he asks"are you gone and onto someone new" then says"tired of starting again somewhere new" obviously hes with someone he can't make up his mind about. its kinda shitty but he knows it will probly just be the same somewhere else and he's sick of trying. and the chorus asks everyone if they are just putting up with someone like him cause its not worth the effort.
Meaning. | Reviewer: Matt | 3/24/10
This song is simply about relationships. What kind of relationship? Well, that's up to you. It could mean a relationship with a partner, friend, parents, or a stranger. We all have someone who knows our weakness, and uses it against us. This song is describing the effects of that.

Its what you make it. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/3/10
Thats the wonderful thing about music, you make it whatever you want it to be.
This song to some may sound about a girlfriend, to others it might be give the best that you got.
The meaning of songs, is what you make it. Let your imagination make its own meaning, not someone else meaning.

You guys aren't reading into it enough... Everyone automatically assumes that songs they can't explain are about relationships, and they're wrong.
If you listen to the song, it nearly sounds like he's sounding suicidal. Think of "someone" as being your average school yard bully.
I agree with 'foolover' | Reviewer: Aleksandra | 11/11/09
I haven't read all of the comments, but I see that the one 'foolover' gave is the nearest to how I interpretate this song: in my opinion it is also about everything :)
Relationship, girlfriend problem, boyfriend problem,... those are just the specific stories that most of people listening to the song are recongizing themselves in.
While actually, at least the way I see it, it is about the true meaning and purpose of everyone of us.
