i think a boy is confessing his love for this girl..i love which he probably didn't know to have, i love which has grown in time...but now she belongs to someone else, she is loved by someone else.But could it be that they have never been just friends?could it be that they both feel the same way but she doesn't confess?he is tired of starting over againa..she gave him something the other girls didn't give him.But how could that girl, the girl he loves,understand that?probably she can read him but she can't be 100% sure because he doesn't tell her..she probably belongs to another guy, and probably she doesn't love this guy the way she loves HIM.But if he doesn't make the first move..love will be lost..

I look at it as a conversation between a guy and the girl he has fallen for. He's admiting to her he has grown to love her, even though he knows she may not be ready to hear it, or maybe he fears she may think his feelings are more "in the moment" instead of love, as she slowly separates herself from him. He's confessing he has had a rough go at it in the past, but he's ready to dive in again.
It sounds like as she drifts away, he is wondering if it's lack of feelings towards him, or maybe she's gun shy as a result of past relationships. "Were you born to resist or be abused?"
She's telling him she wanted no strings attached fun, nothing serious, and she began to feel for him, too. This made her nervous and reluctant to enter a relationship. Scared of her own goal of staying away from the flame, coupled with not trusting herself in not hurting him causes her to instinctively stear clear, thinking it would be better for both parties.
This makes him worry that her reluctance is due to another guy. It becomes a battle inside of him trying to distuingish if she's trustworthy, if she's that battered from the past, if she is falling for him or if she's on the slide.
He feels a sense of urgency and begins to shout for answers that she's not ready to give, questions she may not know the answers to.
With his heart on the line again, he confesses that he doesn't want to start over again. He's found the one he's been looking for and he's not giving up on her. He refuses to because he knows his feelings to be true.
I love the last shout at the end. It really sums up my feelings at this time as well. The girl of my dreams is doing excatly the same thing to me. "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!"

i think this song is like about losing someone you love, and it's like a revenge, asking:i he getting the best you have, like i gave the best i had to you. I think this is a beautiful song, but it's trying to get a revenge. Love is a tricky thing. i LUV this song <3

this girl dumped me for somebody else. i really liked her and this guy didnt really like her at all it pissed me off. this song reminds me of her. david grohls written some silly songs but this ones really serious i like it alot its something people relate to and its just a great song

I too, have given my all for the girl i love.. sacrificed friends, family and most of my time. Always taking care of her, massage.. gifts. Never got nearly as much back. In fact - if i hadn't done those things.. we propably wouldn't have even lasted these 6 months.

I think Krystals and Georgias translation of this song was very direct as for me at least.. Im in love with a guy who is getting the best of me and we have been together as boyfriend and girlfriend for 5 years! I lost my faith, trust, hope and everything i used to be... This relationship has been like a roller coaster and now i want to break free. Im fighting every day as i continue on loving and caring for this guy.. he broke my heart and first time when listening to this song i started to cry and even if i dont really know what meaning of this song is i still feel attached to it. I guess that's the point of this song and it's helping me to hear these words when being in a state of doubt each day...

this song is all about love ... heartache in a relationship or even notin a relationship . maybe some one your giving your best to but isnt doing the same for you . some one whos taking you on a rollercoaster love but you just dont know if you can let go . and your fighting with yourself on th inside its a battle of hanging on or letting go.

I believe the song has a double meaning. All of the meanings mentioned above sound great. But, If you have lost your faith...then someone is getting the best of you.Also the part where it says "were you born to resist or be abused" has a double meaning.

Im a beginner and this song is quite a challenge, and yeah its fun!
I was just about to dedicate this song to someone tonight but i cant do it because of this line. Thanks for the genius anyway. This song is great!

To me this song is a conversation with someone else who you care for and they are sort of messing with you "I've got a confession to make I'm no fool" I could see myself saying those words to someone "I needed somewhere to hand my head with your noose"

we played this song fo rock band, its a good song, but it was made bad in the end by someone in our band (cant say, he might read it :)). Overall, it was great fun! This song is great for beginners, but not the drum part...

i could not listen to this song for over two years, i hated what it reminded me of. I was listening to this album when i was going with my previous girlfriend. After we split this song always reminded me of her. I hope someone is getting the best from her and giving their best for her. I know i would of. I now love this song, avoiding it has made it fresh, like it is a new song.Even though the subject it was written about may be different i feel we all paint our own pictures from songs. Some foo fighters songs seem fun and simple but others do have deeper meanings.

this reminds me of a girl that i was in love with and she was too but we were just friends.then i told her that i loved her,but she already had a boyfriend.I still love her,but I cant.She had many boyfriends,and i know this relationship wont last long.Now i moved somewhere new.And i hope her next boyfriend will get the best from her.And maybe one day,I could see her again.And she even may have kids.
