To me it means going about life passionately, but wishing you could share it and keeping the hope alive that meeting that person will happen. I am moved to tears with the song's shear beauty and perfection. It expresses the feeling of my own longing. Amazing Incubus!

I don't get why everyone thinks its about someone whos dead....sure it might be...but it sounds more like a long distance relation-ship and he misses her....I think that's what it's about but at the same time they don't really like each other...you know??

This song was played at my daughters funeral,it reminds me of the free and wonderful spirit she was.She first heard this the day i picked my 94 cobra up ,she hit the repeat button on my cd player and we listened to it probably 5 times back to back on our way back to town....she just loved it.My daughter was just 2 weeks shy of her 16th birthday when she tragicaly drowned....there was a lot of push to play the classic stuff you play at a funeral but i thought that to make her freinds feel comfortable and to express what chel was probably thinking about us in heaven as she watches over us that this would be appropriate.I still cry when i hear this but its ok to cry...even for men ,it helps release all the crap that builds up in life and cleanses the soul...can't wait to see you again in heaven chel...we'll go cruisin in my cobra and listen to this again...love you!!!! This song speaks to me in more ways than one. I lost my cousin/brother almost seven months ago. He played this song on the guitar for me the last time I got the chance to see him. He loved this song. I personally hate when a friend of mine says:" if I'm not with him, I cannot be happy" "I love him so much that my life has no meaning if I cannot be with him"...
I tell you, I can't understand that selfishness on people's minds. Having a boyfriend is not the only way we can feel satisfied as persons. My life does not summarize in loving a men. It is an important part, but it is not all.
So for me, this song, talks about being able to feel happy with one's self, and not necesarilly have that person that you want and love su much, with you. Is about realizing that you can have a plenty life, eventhough you are not meant to be together.Is about accepting that your loveone is better somewhere else.
It is about knowing that love has to do with doing everything it takes in order to make the other person happy, even when it means that you won't be a part of it, even when it means that you want be a pert of his/her life. True love accepts the facts of life, and embrace them as well.

This song reminds me of a time shortly before I was able to be with the girl it reminds me of...I was on the beach, thinking of her, missing her, and I wrote our names in the sand inside a heart....yea, corny. A few months later I was in a relationship with her that lasted a little short of a year. I still don't know exactly what happened to end us, but best that can be said is that we just didn't work out. I think of her still when I hear this song and remember our good days together.

To me, this song isn't so much about missing someone as it is loving the moment you are in and wishing the ones you care about were there to witness it too. That perfect moment when you can't think of anything BUT that moment. It reminds me of a day...in the house my family used to live in. My 1st memories of home. It was late spring and it was a cool day with a light wind. The grass was soft and green and I was laying in it looking at dandelions. The smell of the grass. The feel of it cold from the shade beneath me. The way the sunlight broke through the branches of the tree I was laying under. I went out the very next day to recreate it and I couldn't. I was 7 years old. I'm 37 now and have only felt that a few other times in my life. Like a comet that takes 10 years to see again. You're never quite sure after you feel one of those moments if you will ever feel it again.

So go out searching. Make memories. Instead of holding on so tight to all the garbage in life...put your hands in the air. Pray. And maybe you will get another moment.

I met this amazing guy on a cruise and instantly knew he was the one. After a lot of crappy guys I found it was time for a new one who respected me. after only 6 nights I knew I loved him. the only thing standing in the was is that I live in Massachusetts and he lives in Michigan and we are just teenagers. now he's so far away and every night just makes me wish that he was here. the first verse is perfect for us cause it sums up out nights together. here's my story. I am from China and I went to US to get my master's. 3 months before i finished the study, I met this amazing girl J. We talked a lot since day 1 and instantly became good friends. I drove her to and back from school. we studied together. we sang along the radio. we went to have the best chinese food in town and got the best deal for korean green tea ice-cream. I was pretty sure I was in love and she felt the same way. But cuz i was leaving for China soon, we decided to stay as friends. Then I came back to China and we both got on with our lives respectively. We kept in touch by email. she had a bf and then had a break up. we started to talk to each other more on facebook and gtalk. we saw each other through many things. we realized that we are still deeply in love. but we also know we cannot be together because of the distance. so one day, she said "John, look for Incubus's wish you were here. that's how i often feel about you". so I did, and here I am. it'd be a lie if i said i don't think it's a shame that i wasn't born in US. it's sorta fate or destiny, right? what i am gonna do is to love and support this lady by doing whatever i can till she finally finds herself someone.

Every time I hear this song it reminds me of my fiance who passed away last year. He died in a motorcycle accident caused by someone else. We have a 3 year old daughter and her and I always go to the beach together now and look at the sky. She knows her Daddy is in the clouds and will always be watching over her...

This song is beautifully placed in the world that it creates a different meaning in others hearts. Incubus is truely one of the only bands that I've encountered that gives me a feeling of hope..they simply convey the way of life that's real to real people. Brandon Boyd also contributes the movement in his vocals! I love they way they write..so poetically, they let you guess the meaning meanwhile still giving you the ability to find your own.

This is my boyfriend's and my song, and it means everything to me. Before we started dating, we sent YouTube links to each other, and one of us brought up Incubus, and how much we miss them. We both simultaneously sent the same link for the same video. This song. Everytime I am without him, I think of this song and smile. He's the most amazing person I've ever met, and I am happy when I'm with him. I always wish he was here with me. He's my everything.
