It's about finding yourself | Reviewer: Chris | 8/7/07
Often we give ourselves up to love someone else. It shouldn't be that way but it often is. To me this is a song about finding yourself again, rediscovering who you are. Not wanting to let your lover down, telling them you'll be back once you've worked it out.
This song is incredible | Reviewer: Troy Thacker | 7/24/07
This song is incredible. I lost my wife in February of 06 and she really enjoyed Josh Gorban’s music. I’m a singer / songwriter and musician. I’ll be singing this song at church for her and all of those who have lost loved ones. I only wish she was there physically to hear me sing it for her, I know she’ll be there in spirit. God bless.
Beautiful! | Reviewer: Dee Warner | 7/19/07
A friend and work colleague died in February, six days after giving birth to a beautiful baby son. This song came out at about the same time. Still chokes me every time I hear it, the lyrics just about sum up every emotion that was flying around at the time. Heard it this morning for the first time in ages and sobbed my way to work! I dedicate it to everyone who has lost someone dear to them, beautiful, just beautiful!
From the moment I first heard this song... | Reviewer: Ray Fenwick | 7/10/07
....it became very important to me. I have been suffering depression and a life with a great deal of pain and sadness, and there are times when I have thoughts of ending my life. Not because I am not scared of pain or dying, but because sometimes I am more scared of living. The line "I never want to let you down...forgive me if I slip away" says it better than I ever could, and for this reason I would hope this is one of the songs played when I die.

I love to listen to Josh Groban's music. My first impression of the lyrics was it was referring to slipping away from life and how one day they would live again. Another interpretation I get from it is maybe an alzheimer patient and how they slip out of the present world and then back in. Either way it's a very reflective and beautiful song.

Here's a note on this song from a YouTube member:

"Josh wrote this song about himself at a time he was feeling lost and alone, facing personal and professional pressures and questions. He is the old friend he sings about. It's about trying to find oneself again after going through a lot of change and questioning your life."
Seems about right to me as well.
Meaning of the song | Reviewer: Megan | 6/8/07
As far as I know this was written in remembrance of Andy Gibb who would have turned 40 earlier this year if he hadn't died too young.
I think the lyrics reflect Andy's struggle to come to terms with this world and finding happiness - or losing it which is what happened to him. I think it is Andy who 'fades into this life' and never wanted to let the people he loves down.
Getting away from this crazy world probably refers to drug use...
What is brilliant about the way it's written, to me, is that it is so open to interpretation it is easy to find something in it that reverberates with yourself.
If I've repeated what someone else has already said, ignore me!
it means so much to me | Reviewer: isolde36 | 6/6/07
My dad died of cancer in February 2 days before this song was released. It makes me sad, because I think of him slipping away, but then I think the song tells me that we will meet again. All at one it is one of the most uplifting and heart wrenching songs for me to listen to.
Meaning... | Reviewer: Goldmare | 6/1/07
It's a bit hard... I'm not quite sure I get it either, but I don't think it's necessarily meant to be romantic. The way it's written, there's nothing that states which type of love is being felt... could be a friend, lover, or even family... but, given that he does say "old friend" it's most likely supposed to be a close friend, not a lover. Kinda sounds like a long-lasting friendship (since childhood, perhaps), but they grew apart (maybe one moved). Just my interpretation...
It's funny, but when I first read the lyrics, I kinda got the impression he was switching between first and third person (as in, he was that old friend), but... I really don't think that's the case, just how it sounded at first. ^^;
Either way, I still love this song. ^_^
