We've all had times when we just feel lonely and we've lost our way, times when we've "been gone for way too long". At times it seems we're doing all we can to be friendly and help out others, yet all we get is pain. As Kid says, there are times when we've "been givin' just ain't been gettin'" Yet the end of the song is what makes the song so chilling and so unforgettable. Part of the reason stems from what happened in the late '90's, during which time much of his music was pirated and shared freely through P2P sites and software such as Napster and Kazaa. Because of that, Kid's career was all but ruined, and he nearly starved to death in California. That, at least, is my theory of the story behind the song.
