Killing Floor | Reviewer: cap'n emo | 8/3/2008
"Killing Floor" is a song written and recorded by Howlin' Wolf in 1964. It was released on the album, The Real Folk Blues in 1966. This song has been performed live by many blues and rock guitar artists, including Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Byther Smith and Albert King.
Led Zeppelin performed the song live in 1968 and 1969, and later used it as the basis for their song "The Lemon Song". Bootleg copies of early Led Zeppelin concerts include rough versions of the song credited as "Killing Floor." Their version, which also included some lyrics from Robert Johnson's "Traveling Riverside Blues," credited Chester Burnett (Howlin' Wolf) on some copies of Led Zeppelin II, with the original title. The song was retitled "The Lemon Song" and after legal involvement on the part of Burnett's publishers, the song was credited to "Page/Plant/Jones/Bonham/Burnett".
The definative Rock/Blues groove | Reviewer: Bruce Blackstone | 9/25/2007
Blues is mostly about feel, about getting something off your chest. Rock is mostly about attitude, about being in your face. The Lemon Song is prolly the only song that brings Rock & Blues together with so much truth and power. Page's guitar solo i always gets me right here (got my hand on my heart) The dynamics in is song between loud and soft, between rock and blues and especially between Plant and Page make this arrangement of a willie Dixon classic ring with pure emotion and conviction, The Lemon Song has got it all....
