It happened again. | Reviewer: Mr. moby dick | 11/4/08

I think is about a couple that was adicted to heroin or drugs.
His husband or boyfriend died, the way she is going to die.
She has the shame of being exposed on her style of life and the pain of not sharing it with his mate. I will never sleep alone. So she is slowing killing her self.

love the song...meaning is interesting though... =x | Reviewer: Joan | 9/5/08

sure there are many ways to decipher the lyrics... part of me think that one person is watching another and how they hurt themselves however way they do (heroin... ect?) and maybe how they can't sleep without the guilt of watching them and doing nothing while they live without the shame... meh...
i've only heard of this song from this band. So call it my newb-ish interpretation.

Cedrics voice and Omars lyrics = delight | Reviewer: Bassjunkie | 8/12/08

I think this song has the natural instinct to relate to everyone - whether it be about drugs, sex abuse or getting high. As i can relate to all i see how each of you thought different things

I think drug abuse mostly because of the heartbeat at the end which hooks into the next song on the album (though u cant beat it live)

Ive thought it means alot of things, i had a moment when cedric sang this on one knee, in ST JAMES in concert - staring me in the eyes and it made me cry.

I was wasted, but, this song is brilliant, emotional and one of the best ever conceived.

Big-Ups, i hope they come back to NZ AGAIN, 3x not enuf!!

really emotional | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/25/08

The Mars Volta is an exceptional group.. they are the only group from which I really sit down and analyse the lyrics!! The composer is a genious, his lyrics are amazing and convey such deep feelings, they really penetrate your soul... I really think his usage of literary devices is excellent, really touching!! this is real music!! real art that makes you feel!!

the widow | Reviewer: jacky | 6/22/08

i love this song probably more then life itself, but to me this sounds like if cedric sings describes the thoughts from a victime of sexual abuse. in the beginning he describes a person who smokes a lot (older people and pervers do smoke a lot) and the first person tells about the fact how it became cold (freezed, emotionaly), ashamed and that it is aware of the fact that 'he' will continue to rape it till his death (let me die cuz i'll never sleep alone). so, doesn't this sound logical to you? even in the end of the song we have those disturbing sound effects, like the sound of someone shivering (from fear), and i can guess that raped people do shiver after beeing abused. end.

The song? | Reviewer: Bool | 4/6/08

I actually think this song is about smoking or something.

In the beginning lines "Through a weezing of coughs." and "He's got fasting black lungs", cigarettes cause you to cough and weeze, and tar begins to line the inside of your lungs. Tar is black, thus "fasting black lungs". In the video, it shows people coming to him for some of this black goop that he hands out. Another thing found in cigarettes is nicotine, and it's addicting. "Look at how they flock to him." "He knows that the taste is such... is such to die for."

That's how I see the song. The smoking industry likes to corrupt people in any way, even though it kills people.

meaning to ME | Reviewer: steves | 2/13/08

listen to the song and instead of thinking about "he" being a person.. think about he being heroin.. makes a lot more sense.

The first few lines are a personification, what heroin would be as a man.

"And I hear him every night, In every pore
And every time he just makes me warm" talking about addiction of course

"Look at how they flock to him From an isle of open sores" makes a lot of sense if "he" is heroin because of the people all being addicted to it

so with that being said i think the narrator is a rehabilitated addict.. hence "the widow" of "him" aka heroin

hi | Reviewer: shan | 1/6/08

i think that there is not one correct answer.
but you make up your own meaning that may help you get through some stuff. the lyrics are vague enough that you can relate it to different situations and itll still make sense =)

awsome song | Reviewer: Jessica | 1/6/08
