The Reviews about Baby Blue Sedan (page 1/ 2)
------ performed by Modest Mouse

i have listened to modest mouse for years, well before they were "popular" but i cant say i was there from the beginning. not that i'm not old enough, Christ some of the band could be my illegitimate children. but to say that modest mouse sucks now or something about those lines is absurd. if you don't like the way they sound now don't listen, but bands develop over time and generally lyrics are about what the author knows or is going through. i admittedly listen to the older albums more often but i also own the newer ones and they get their share of air time. remember my little arrogant droogs they didn't write the music for your acceptance.

self-righteous response | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/28/09

okay.

here are some mixed points of consideration, both for people like the anonymous 12/24/08 scrooge (douchebag), and those conflicted about modest mouse's sound.

to the anonymous scrooge AND haters of the new:

a) older IS better for almost everyone who heard 'float on' or '3rd planet' and then chose to restart with their older albums (see: anyone born in the 80's or early 90's), and just old school fans. it's almost given, I'd argue. the interest is clearly and audibly in making music and communicating, somewhat accurately, that life is pretty shitty. the lyrics are better (in content, realism (this is important for me) and just in terms of lyricism, 'better'), and the sound is unmistakably of washington state/the pacific NW.

b) the newest of the newer is not bad, it's just that: isaac overdoes his voice, they now collaborate with johnny marr (anyone who says this guy doesn't have an influence on the band and the band's sound is retarded. it's johnny marr. i'm sure everyone's been entertaining his ideas, and I'm sure he brings a healthy wallet for promotions), works harder on production and post-production, is on a major label that, as mentioned, promotes the SHIT out of their new records and tours (this is a problem for fans like me, because every 'hot new single' is grossly overhyped and is ruined before it's even listened to). and, truly, isaac doesn't write all of what fans of the old want (and he/they simply can't. we get the sound that the label and band compromise on, which, quite frankly, is just what their newest album sounds like). maybe a decade of consistently improving/signature songwriting got old when ONLY the same people appreciated it?

c) read interviews. modest mouse never made much money. they were pretty broke all the way through 'good news...,' sans when they lent 'gravity rides everything' for a car commercial. point: if you can't support these people eventually earning some money from their long careers of musicianship, who SHOULD have a paying career? everyone should figure out that hating people for being successful is reserved for those aged 13-19, and anyone still stuck in the 90's.

to ALL (sans those who did the following):

d) comment about the FUCKING SONG posted above, which is a good one, because that's what this page is reserved for.

so..... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/11/09

I'm not gonna lie....bands often change styles a little from album to album...it is rediculous to say that someone is a shitty fan simply because they like a newer album more so than an older one. i personally love all of modest mouse's music....even the new stuff.

To the arrogant lad under this post | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/14/09

Youre the quintessence of hypocrisy my good man. You act as if you have something to defend or attack. These posts are all simple opinions of the bands choice in music. Although I'm against this users comment "anyone who thinks modest mouse is better now than they were before good news is a shitty fan", do not group people who prefer a more melancholy sound with people who unjustfully post naive garbage.

thanks.

Fucking stupid modest mouse "fans" | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/24/08

okay guys..everyone who left a comment is a fuckin idiot.. dont talk about MM now and diss their music if your a fan of the fuckin band you inbreds, it makes no sense, i see you guys downtalk them all over the web. epic records fell apartt, hence their breakup, get back together, new band members. Isaac brock got tired of writing sad shit and wanted to grow up and get over it cause he knew everyone else was. the newer albums kick just as much ass as the older ones, just not so dark in meaning. so if i hear one omore fuckin comment from you assholes calling modest mosue shit when you speak so higg of them 10 years ago...ill say that again...20 years ago.. GET OVER IT YA SAD SAPPY SUCKER AND LEARN TO KNOW YOUR HISTORY OF A BAND BEFORE YOU TALK SHIT. tthanks for making me get pissed all over again ya douchebags

Understanding the slip? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/14/08

I have to agree that modest mouses older music is by far better than its newer music is. Though the new music does hold its place among some of the greats out there. it just seems the lyrics have just been slipping a little over the years. Then again maybe I've been slipping over the years. Custom Concern is the greatest song ever!

new modest sucks | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/14/08

anyone who thinks modest mouse is better now than they were before good news is a shitty fan. just because the recording quality is better (because theyre famous now) doesnt mean the music is. Their earlier albums are consistent- every song is good. their new albums are trying to be too poppy and half of the songs suck.

lots of people | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/18/08

talk about how it's so sad and they can relate to the disconnection of a relationship. all isaac's lyrics are about irony and paradoxes. in this song, he means nothing more than to convey the importance of not always relying on so many stimuli and other people to keep you happy.

what helps? | Reviewer: Lauren | 6/29/08

Poignant or shmoignant...there is no true lesson on love here,,, this is just another way that modest mouse's lyrics attack life...embrace the sadness that comes along with having to know so much, endure so much in this short time....dealing with corporate bullshit, trying to understand the fundamentals.....listening to modest mouse takes you on a head trip that is hard to come by these days......"Henri you dance like a wooden indian............................"

An oldie-but-goodie. | Reviewer: kazaru | 11/2/07

This is a great song to listen to when you're going through a drifting-apart breakup that proceeds like cancer.

It's also a great song otherwise, and I'm pretty pleased to say that even if they don't sound as abjectly miserable nowadays, Modest Mouse has actually become steadily better through the years.
