The Reviews about Oh Me (page 2/ 3)
------ performed by Nirvana

Hi Kurt | Reviewer: Luke Tylim | 9/10/08

To me, 'Oh Me' means being sarcastically in awe of yourself, being humbly in touch with your mastery. You juggle ten balls at once without thinking. "I don't have to think, I only have to do it. The results are always perfect, but that's old news".

It's romantic analysing words sung by dead dude, especially ones dealing with afterlife. "I can't see the end of me. My whole expanse I cannot see." I suspect a man with a deathwish might be entertaining the possibility of afterlife. Where do I go next? Will I be me when I get there?

"If I had to lose a mile. If I had to touch a feeling. I would lose my soul the way I do. Would you like to hear my voice speaking with emotion invented at your birth?" I think these lines deal with how the ego buys into feeling and emotion, losing touch with the natural self (soul). Losing a mile could refer to caring about ones place in the rat race, which would be buying into a win/loss, karmic consciousness. When you take away ego you are left with an infinite, bottomless pit of possibility and capacity. "Formulate infinity, stored deep inside of me." Reminds me of the Tool lyric, "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment and remember we are eternal, and all this pain is an illusion."

About the lyrics | Reviewer: Flamur | 8/22/08

If I had to lose a mile
If I had to touch feelings
I would lose my soul
The way I do

in this part Cobain says that he would lose his soul the way he did (singing this song always makes you to feel it less because you become the feeling and you don`t have to feel it couse you`re the feeling ) to make you feel, and if you feel it and sing it you become the feeling itself so you don`t feel it anymore ,he intended to make us like him.

I don't have to think
I only have to do it
The results are always perfect
But that's old news <-----

the second part tells us that things can be done only if u do them ,without thinking, and the results of that can be perfect

Would you like to hear my voice
Sprinkled with emotion
Invented at your birth?

I can't see the end of me
My whole expanse I cannot see
formulate affinity
Stored deep inside me

this part tells us that he didn`t know the end himself, and he formulated infinity and stored inside and this means he will never die after dying

(x2)
Formulate affinity
Stored deep inside me

Okay, here goes.

First off - if you're a thirteen year old hippie on drugs, don't read this. You may loose sleep. Then, there's no reason to call me names or anything. Reply as you must, but I won't read it. Trust me.

Okay, Now - if you guys are the fans, Then you know this song's a cover. As is most on Unplugged, the only album that actually sounds good. So much for Kurt's holy poetry. No people, this song is not about Kurt's pain and emotions. The sole reason you enjoyed this song so much on Kurt's behalf, is because of it's performance; to which I agree, is pretty decent.

But a genius and a poet? Did you forget about the Teen Spirit thing? Please people, that stunk. Most of the Kurt-written lyrics are about... well, nothing at all. "But he invented a completely new sound!" Yes, well... Take Skynyrd and AC/DC, go around halfway.. make it ten times easier, replace the lyrics with some weird drug inspired muff and you get Nirvana. It worked, granted; but that could've been lucky just as much as it could've been genius.

But the man was a visionary! Oh, come on now, you just say that 'cause he's dead. Elvis wasn't all that popular anymore just before he died, but his death was the best marketing stunt he could ever have. Same thing goes for Kurt. But if you ask me, killing yourself is showing you're a pansy. Sadly, it's a very respected way to show your pain in the world of the hippies. Well, I've seen a lot of people with way more trouble than Kurt ever had, and had the balls to solve their problems, and/or live with them.

"At least he didn't do it all for the money!" Uhuh, dream on kids. Any idea how much money Kurt's drugs cost? Well, you probably do. Yes, he made shitloads of money playing his guitar; that's what bands strive to do. Make loads of cash and fame with the thing you love doing. Some are good, such as Nirvana and get the chance do so. There's nothing wrong with that.

"You question the god that is Kurt?" I just don't deem the guy worthy of the title rockgod, guitar hero, uberpoet or anything. I just like this album in my car. And that's all it is. A pretty good album.

As far as his poetry goes; this song is a cover. And so are most - if not all - on this album. Stuff he did write, like the Teen Spirit thing? Come on, that's not the work of a genius.

Don't get me wrong, the performance of the song is pretty good, and pleasing from a few decent speakers. But that's about it. And don't give me any of that blasted hippie point saying; "He didn't do it for the money"; because YES he did, and so do all self respecting rock bands. If a musician gets offered a contract that pays a lot, they take it. And there's nothing wrong with that.

The sole reason current thirteen year old hippies still see this guy as a god is because he killed himself; which is kind of the ultimate respectable hippie solution to extreme pain. Tell you what - the guy's a pansy. Look at Slash, that man is way more Rock n Roll than good ol' Kurt ever was, did a LOT more drugs and drinks, and he's still around; because he got the balls to live. Pain of the world my backside.

"Why are you here if you keep slamming my hero down?" Because I heard the song again, after fifteen or so years, and STILL couldn't understand a word he was saying. Sorry girls.

people say im alot like kurt. they say my sobng lyrics sound like something that he would write. thats kinda cool cuz hes my hero. kurt was amazing with his voice. i know people that hate anything with guitars and shit that just love nirvana. that is proof that kurt was amazing. people that wanna say shit about his suicide well they can fuck off cuz i know wat its lyk 2 be put thru shit and want to kill yourself. he was depressed as am i. you can only handle to much untill u snap and when kurt snapped it resulted in what happend to him. its very sad but thats reality. this shit happens to people all the time. theres so many music star drug addicts. they did that shit becuase they needed to escape from the stress of being who they were.

Shaun said: 'dont get so personal about it', but the truth is, as soon as you hear Kurt's voice 'spinkled with emotion', it gets personal, and stays that way forever .

Shaun said- "I just want to say for all your loyalty you have to one man and his music how much do you think he'd appreciate having something like a suicide not read by every person in the world of which was not meant to see it. Do you honestly think in his dying moments he said to himself, "and this one is for the fans!" Fuck off all of you, its just music, dont get so personal about it."

it was FOR his fans dumbass!

Kurt Cobain - (: | Reviewer: poet'z | 8/14/07

stop being foolish. Kurt Cobain was fucking good and I wish all of us could apreciate his songs the way I do. If you don't, please stop being stupid. He just wasn't perfect, but I think you can't blame him, can you ? Haven't you ever had bad moments ? He was a little bit more sensytive than you, so he did that mistake when he could not stand for his purposes. read his letter, he explains why he killed himself..
Please give him some credit, at least, for the good music he gave to you .. :\
