He was sick of touring. It all hit him in Ireland and Michael Stipe of REM, a good friend of Thom Yorke's told him to repeat the line "I'm not here, this isn't happening to himself" so that he could step back and take a break from it all. So he decided to write this song about it. It was originally titles 'How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found'. It was also performed twice in 1998. "How To Disappear Completely" really fits in with "motion picture soundtrack", they both have the same mood.
