what a song | Reviewer: Jeff | 9/7/07
unlike some who have previously posted i listened to this the first time i got it. i wasn't really paying attention though. it cought my attention when i heard about Smoking alcohol and all the bad things, and i was thinking it doesn't sound like relient K, but i listened closer and i was able to understand it. I must say i did cry as i was listening to it. my favorite line is
"I can hear You whisper to me,
'It's time to leave
You'll never be lonely again'"
it is the most amazing thing to here for me as i just started college and alone even though i am not on my deathbed, i still have Jesus being there for me at all times.
i ultimately love this song
God's grace | Reviewer: ed | 8/7/07
I came from a broken home and tried to fill the infamous void with booze and earthly things. This song seems to chronicle the early part of my life. It brings me to a prayer of thanksgiving for God's awesome gift of forgiveness everytime I hear it. The lyrics are so powerful and full of meaning. I have always listened to Relient K because I enjoyed their music, but this song brings them into a whole new category. This song is worship for me...

My wife got this CD for me. Downloaded it into iTunes, put on my pod & listened to it a few times. Every time this song came on, same thing... Im not listening to an 11 minute song! haha... after a week or 2 I finally did listen to it. Absolutely amazing! God is good!
The only review of the actual lyrics printed above I have (which I will also submit for correction) is capitalization (ie. the teacher = the Teacher), etc.
sad | Reviewer: Michi | 8/3/07
this song always makes me pause and I get teary all the time... maybe cause I feel a little alike with the man on his deathbed. feeling alone. happy and sad at the same time that he wont be alone and sad that no one's there with him at his death bed.
Worth It | Reviewer: xxSeekingJesus | 7/16/07
This song..wow..
I was downloading off random songs by Relient K on limewire when i saw the title 'Deathbed'. At first, I didn't even want to listen to this song because it was 11 minutes long. So whenever listening to music on my computer while doing homework, i skipped this song, being the lazy fool i am. One day, I was on the verge of drifting off to sleep while doing my homework late at night/early in the morning(stayed up till 3) when i heard an unfamiliar song play. I got interested and listened to it, closely.
At the end of the song, I don't know why, but i started crying my eyes out. I swear, my whole homework was drenched in my tears. It moved me so much...This song, it's WORTH the whole 11 minutes. Heck it could be 30 minutes and I'd still listen to it. NOw i listen to it everyday, and cry whenever i hear it too.

No the hole song is about forgiveness, how Jesus will forgive you of your crimes and bring you to a better place where you wont be alone and have to resort to the things that the child resorted to, its about how this child sinned and sinned "I can hear the sad memories
Still haunting me
So many things I'd do again" and the things he would do again would be done in a better way that wouldn't be so hurtful towards his children and his wife and the, but even tho he did do those bad things he asked for forgiveness even tho he thought he didnt deserve it, because he was afraid of Jesus because of the sad things he did but even tho he did do those he asked for forgiveness and Jesus forgave him :)

The line above "But he left once to return to his stupid girl" does not sound right. As I listen to the song I hear this: "But he left once to never return"
Wow. | Reviewer: Jack Connolly | 5/28/07
This song is amazing and powerful. I teared up when I listened to this song. I thought it was amazing the lead singer of Switchfoot came in at the end. What an amazing, powerful song!
Glory to God. Amen for a good song.

Now for this song. It's ALL in the lyrics. I look at it as a story about troubles and forgiveness. A father left his young child and never came back. His mother, to help ease the pain, told the child that he left for war. As the child grew up, he began to turn to drinking and smoking as a way to ease the pain, which only got him to the point of cancer. Now as he's dying on his deathbed, he prays to God to forgive him, and to take him home to heaven. Jesus comes down, and has a conversation with the man, telling him that he will, indeed, bring him home. I love this song so much, it has so much meaning. It tells an entire lifetime in a 11 minute song.
