The Reviews about Faking My Own Suicide (page 1/ 4)
------ performed by Relient K
For those who don't seem to understand.. | Reviewer: Matt M. (Columbus, MS) | 10/19/09
Think of the person singing as "God" or "Jesus".
The only defense those that are offended by is the reference to these lines:
"You say aloud that you
Would've been my wife"
Am I the only one who's pastor has ever said anything about being Jesus' "bride"? Maybe it's because I'm Pentecostal, or it's strictly him that uses that metaphor. But you also have to take into consideration that the whole basis of Christianity is our "relationship" with Jesus.
Tell me, when you look at the word relationship, what do you think of? A significant other, obviously. It has a double meaning, and not only should this song NOT be denounced, it should be PROMOTED!
Thiessen wrote the song in a way that let Christians see the references, but also in a way so that nonbelievers would be able to relate to it.
And what if that nonbeliever looked up the rest of Relient K's songs, after only hearing that one? Then the seeds of faith have been planted.
In closing, I can understand the concern and speculation, but those who denounce the song have no firm ground to stand on. All you have to do is step outside the box.
Not Christian. | Reviewer: Logan | 10/16/09
This is directed to whoever put <3 as their name.
Okay, first of all you are just wrong to think
this song is about God. One reason is that they refer about wives and why would he fake his own suicide to get God in his side? That makes no sense at all. Plus Relient K went mainstream months before this album was published so they weren't even in the Christian genre when this album came out. And about "Must Have Done Something Right" being a christian song, that isn't true either. If you watch the music video it is clearly a girl that he is singing about, and he would never refer to God as "being out of his league". Your pretty much wrong in everything you said in your comment.
um..... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/29/09
ok, I think they meant for this song to be kind of funny, and maybe for some people to relate, however, I think it is a stupid way to get into a relationship. Once they get over how happy they are you're not dead, they'll probably be really, really, really, really, mad at you.
christian song? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/27/09
Just because relient k is christian and writes song about God doesnt mean every song is about God. Why would he say "You say aloud that you
Would've been my wife" That has nothing to do with God or Jesus. However, at the same time this song isn't literal at all. Its just the thought that people get that you feel others take you for granted. Once they think you have died they'll realize that they really do love you. Relient K is a Christian band but you dont need to take every single song and say its about God because its not.
Seriously come on!!! its a Christian band guys! | Reviewer: <3 | 4/5/09
Reliant K is completely a Christian band. they rock! ive seen them in concert. (rock the universe 2008).
this song is about God. but ppl can relate on different levels.. relationships with freinds family or gf or bf.
thats why its such a good song. they write them so they have many different meaning. Pressing On and Must Have Done Something Right are songs that you can also relate to in many different ways. They talk about love but yet in a Godly Christian way.
great song, clever, funny and relatable | Reviewer: Seth | 1/24/09
I really love this song. It makes me laugh because I've thought exactly on the same lines as far as caring about a girl is concerned, not that I'd want to kill myself but that whole "What If?" thing, "I bet if I died she would say she loved me, and then I wouldn't be dead and it would all be cool." It makes me laugh because it's such a ridiculous notion but I can relate.
I never thought about the notion of a second meaning, and I don't know if Relient K did it on purpose, (because for example Jesus didn't really commit suicide) but you can definitely pick out the fact that because of Jesus' death and then coming back to life 2 days later, and the "letter" that he wrote (the Bible), it has drawn people back to God and confess their love for him. The song is therefore very well written because many people can relate to it on different levels!
mmm, yeah | Reviewer: kate | 11/21/08
definitely felt this way before ... this guy who I totally fell for and whom I almost dated, he said he didn't get the song, and later after he broke my heart I listened to it and could TOTALLY RELATE. but eventually it just got too painful to keep hurting like that so I got over him, and now I'm glad I'm not with him. he's a selfish, immature, apathetic liar, anyway. I deserve so much better.
nuf bout gods, just friggin awesum | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/24/08
omfg to HELL with the Christian meaning, literally~
who cares about the religious stuff, the song is obviously about not recognizing how much someone loves another, and finally gets it after his or her partner died. WHAT THE HELL does THAT have to do with JESUS, great song but f*ck off with the gods.
nuf said, THE SONG IS FRIGGIN AWESUM anyway =D
heck yea | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/18/08
well i have a group of my own and for the longest time i wanted to write a song like this one. Relient K put it in a way i couldnt and i can totally relate to the song cause thats what ive seriously felt like doing so my girl could realize that. Great Job !!!!
ok | Reviewer: Hunter | 1/19/08
for you people that are dissing this song, understand this, relient k is a christian band and they would never write anything with a bad meaning. Some of you are only looking at one word, "suicide" You need to listen to the other words in the song. It is a beautiful song. the meaning behind this song is, sometimes people dont show you much respect and they dont relize how they treat you intill your gone. This song has a bibical meaning behind it also, it is jesus died for us and he is coming to life again to catch us and bring the ones that are saved.... I LOVE RELIENT K AND EVERYTHING THEY STAND FOR!
