The Reviews about Faking My Own Suicide (page 3/ 4)
------ performed by Relient K
this is what i think it is about | Reviewer: Lil | 6/12/07
i thought it was about how Jesus gave himself up for us, (like a suicide) but in truth he didn't, the resurection (faking it part) and the letter i think is the bible. He died because he loved us and, so if you view the singer of the song as the 'voice' of Jesus and the you of the song as humanity it makes a lot of sense...at least it did to me and that is how i took it...don't kno wat u all will take from the song so this is just my POV
NOT EVEN RELIENT K!!! | Reviewer: Matt | 6/9/07
This isn't even Relient K!! It's Matthew Thiessen and the Earthquakes. Whoever put these lyrics in Relient K is a moron.
Anyways this song is talking about suicide in a sarcastic and symbolic way. It's not condoning it in any way. Just the opposite acually...
Ginnie's right | Reviewer: Chuck | 5/31/07
I totally agree with Ginnie.. I dont think a Christian band should plea suicide..
Ginnie is wrong. | Reviewer: soulwar | 5/29/07
In my opinion, Ginnie is wrong. Look at the song again and place the "I" as God. I think that's how they (Relient K) meant the song to be, not both sides as mortal humans.
w00t! | Reviewer: katie | 5/17/07
yeah relient K is awesome dude(ttes) lol but, i don't really like the country type part (no offense to country likers) but to "Ginny Smith" or w/e ODN'T GO DISSIN RE.K . i'd like to see you write a song and write music for it and sing it and make an album. ABURN.
The Gospel According To Larry | Reviewer: Larry | 5/12/07
Any one ever read "The Gospel According to Larry"? This song really just reminds me of Josh. He uses pseudocide (yes it's a valid word, two latin roots smashed together) to get away from the world, the only problem being that "the girl" paralleled in the song doesn't follow him. It's a bit more complicated but I'm pretty sure the idea is NOT to condone suicide. It's all in how open your mind is to the metaphor.
C'mon peoples | Reviewer: MATT | 5/12/07
First of all. "Mama", I don't know if you'll see this but: Relient K did not do this song. "Matthew Thiessen and the Earthquakes" which consists solely of Matthew Theissen (lead singer of Relient K) did this song. It is on an album named "My Other Band" along with other songs by independent bands. Try some other albums of Relient K, you'll find they are quite unoffensive. Really, they market themselves as a Christian rock band so, yeah... It's all good.
Here's what I think this song's about btw:
It's a song about a guy who is in love with his best friend. He does not want to die, he wants her to realize that she loves him, so he does something that makes her think about her life without him. It makes sense if you think about it. Actaully I've been in his shoes before. It's frustrating but you would never consider actually committing suicide, you just want her to realize what her feelings are. And the music and his tone are kinda playful. Also because the song is actually addressed to whoever the girl is,=; imagine it as him posing a hypothetical sistuation to her and, as he sings, she realizes exactly what he's hoping she will. This song does not have to be reacted to in such a negative way just beacause of the word "suicide" in it. I can understand the fear that someone young or inexperienced in metaphor would misunderstand the song, but they can be helped from hearing it, or it could be explained to them. I think this is a mostly innocent song about a guy who just wants to be in love.
Thank you and goodnight ~Matt
re:ginnie smith... | Reviewer: kris | 5/9/07
i completely disagree with Ginnie smith and think that whoever she/he is has been completely overreacting. This song seems like it was more meant to show everyone how much they should value the relationships they have and the people in their life. i think it's a crazy awesome song, and i know relient k would never try to convince people to commit suicide.
and for ginnie, how do you know it's "of the devil"? have you talked to the devil?
HUH | Reviewer: Mama | 5/9/07
Ok - maybe this song is satirical or metaphorical - but I have an eleven year old son who wants to listen to this group - I"m not sure he gets the whole satire or metaphor thing yet - I certainly wouldn't want him to get the wrong impression and try faking suicide and the whole thing go horribly wrong. I'll skip on this group for now.
Metaphorical | Reviewer: Fan | 4/29/07
Ginnie, I believe you have valid concerns over this song. But, I believe it is to be taken strictly metaphorically - faking my own suicide is the term used by Relient K to describe the intentions of the main character to "leave all this world behind". This can be achieved simply by moving away to a different city.
