It also started with him lieing to her about being his first love. So technically he started the relationship off with a lie but then fell in love with her and the roses symbolize that the thorns show the his pain from finding out about her. The singer is a lover scorned and bittered by his emotoinal attachment to the woman, who isn't reciprocated. The woman is a girl who enjoys being single and is addicted to lust and backs out of relationships when things start to get serious. So keeps on lusting. So he is basically meeting his female counter-part, which completes the singer, but the female is completely apthetic to his obvious attempts at trying to be WITH her. The key part is 'cheap novelty'. So in a sense he's saying get over yourself, because your not that great and i played you first.
