The Reviews about The Priest And The Matador (page 2/ 4)
------ performed by Senses Fail

Hmm. | Reviewer: Brody | 9/29/08

I do see them being a bit anti-religious.
Especially in this song.
Telling a preist to "please get the fuck away."

Very anti-religious.

Same as itszaaaack, I use it to build my Faith.
Not diminish it any way.

depression | Reviewer: chris | 9/25/08

This song and album are both amazing. If you battle chronic depression I believe the intent of the lyrics is more obvious. It seems like Buddy is not really trying to give deep hidden messages, but is simply writing how he feels. Being endlessly depressed leads you to think about suicide scenarios a lot, as well as question pretty much everything in life (including the depression itself, evident in many other songs). It may be difficult to see to those who haven't dealt with extreme depression, but I believe the lyrics to many Senses Fail songs can be taken almost literally.

Crazy | Reviewer: rudy | 8/28/08

This song is amazing, its about a man that has made the decision that his life is useless and he has no reason to live, it is in fact about suicide and it is also about having poor faith in people as well as religion

This is | Reviewer: B Humble | 4/8/08

I think this song is about not being able to find help, help in depression, and since he's so depressed he doesn't want anyone to help him he push's the people that can help him away. He feels that its just better for him to be alone, then come to people to find help because he's too afraid and its to hard for him to get through his troubles

Incorrect | Reviewer: Stacy | 3/13/08

Senses Fail songs are NOT meant to be depressing. They are a deep message. and 'the priest and the matador' is not about commiting suicide. Perhaps the character does at the end but it's really about having the thought and being helpless, being afraid that not believing in religion was perhaps wrong(shot straight to hell). And think about the William Tell thing too.

Okay... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/1/08

Yes it is quite obvious that ATBCHDI and NS are connected to the song... So please don't point that out if someone else has. And most of Senses Fails songs are meant to be depressing and it deals on people who are actually having these problems. Also someone stated that the message of this song is too lose faith when it actually isn't... the actual message of the song is questionable and only the composer would actually know. This song is probably one of the songs that gets to you the most.

Faithless? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/3/08

Taken literally this song is about a suicidal jumper who's already jumped "oh dear god i think he fell"
and theres all these concerned people trying to help him with religion and stuff, but he has no faith and wants to just die.

Of course thats probably not what its about since none of the songs by senses fail are literal. Most likely the main character hasn't jumped and isn't dying, but is is trouble in some way and is pushing away the people who are trying to help him.

I believe because of SF | Reviewer: itszaaack | 12/27/07

I read in an interview with them that Senses Fail is very anti-religion.

However, i love Senses Fail ad i actually use this whole CD as my inspiration to never lose faith in God.
Whether you agree with that or not is up to you, but i believe that this CD is actually a story of hopelessness that helps show me what my life would be without God.

Before i found Jesus i had many drug problems and my life was like this, and this reminds me of the past and how God has brought me back to life.

But that's just me. :)

wow wow wee wow | Reviewer: Vickitoria | 12/10/07

"GOOD SONG | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/24/2007

Its a really good song and i like how they made this Album a whole story, but its really depressing if you sit and link everything together, makes me proud to be a Jock and not a emo"

hahaha wtf does that have to do with the song... darrrr...

A liberalist interpretation | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/7/07

The religious theme seems to be a front for a deeper uncertainly about death. The imagery of the inverted cross is juxtaposed with gory descriptions of hell and blood running from the mouth. This seems to a metaphor for fear and the lack of comfort that traditional religion offers in the face of impending mortality. It is also interesting the the title is The Priest and the Matador, insinuating that the author is living an dangerous and reckless life, but wonders if religious conformity can still save him from being "shot straight to hell."
