Reviews for Slipknot

I know all of us are saying "Slipknot is considered Nu-Metal which isn't real metal so; It's not metal!" But I don't think Slipknot is really Nu-Metal. Personally, I think most Nu-Metal sucks, and I think Korn is the first true and actually awesome Nu-Metal band out there along with Rage Against the Machine. But Korn has alot of Grunge in it and Grunge is in certain ways a form of Metal. But going back to Slipknot, If you listen to many of the guitar parts (especially on Iowa) you can tell that these are Metal guitarists playing; with all the fast chord progresions, blast-beats, and pinch harmonics which are all regarded with different forms of metal. The cool thing about Slipknot is that they mix so many things together and yet it all sounds like one, tight knit genre in it's own that at the same time is almost unclassifiable. As far as the vocals go, in the first album there was indeed more rap that in any of the other albums, but the rap is not typical rap in any way, (I pretty much hate most typical rap) it's in the connetation of rap but is more in a rock style, and when Corey adds the scream to the rap, it becomes like a Death Metal/Rap mix which makes Slipknot so unique and cool. Once again, Korn and Rage Against the Machine do the same things but in their own, totally recognizable original style. That's one of the reasons I love Slipknot so much. Proud maggot over here!

Now, since so many people are talking about children of Bodom here, I'll say something. Children of Bodom is an amazing band with probably some the best guitar and keyboard players I have ever heard in my life. Basically every song of theirs has a solo for each instrument and everytime it never fails to overwelm me with amazing intrumentalism and overall sonic beauty. And like Slipknot they also have lyrics that mean something and don't jujst scream about killing people or the end of the world with a big black dragon blowing fire on everybodies souls. Crap like that bothers me the no end. But yes I wouldn't say their pure Death Metal. Their much more Speed/Thrash but with way more melodic and harmonic instrumentalism with occasional sing/screams (screaming with a note on it. Like in the verses of Slipknot's "Wait and Bleed"). They're kinda like a mix of As I Lay Dying, Slayer and Iron Maiden.

Well, that's what I have to say.

And yes, even if you don't like Slipknot, you have to respect their ability to operate well as a nine piece band.

I heard 'Pulse of the maggots' about two and a half weeks ago. The moment that beat started, I swear to earth I was /hooked/. Slipknot...Oh. What do I want to say?

They Rock. Plain and simple. A proud maggot I am, and I will continue to be a proud maggot. My friends don't like the band, and I really don't care. They like what they like, I like what I like, I just happen to be more expressive about it. If I could walk around the halls at school with 'I'm a Maggot' sign above my head, I would.

Joey isn't just some average drummer, he's 5'3, he's one of the fastest in metal history and he's got a shit load of heart. I look up to that guy, he's my hero. I'm a fricking fangirl to that guy. Not to mention his mask is just the coolest thing ever.

The band kicks ass. They always will, they won't die. They will continue to live, 10, 20, probably even /30 years/ from now, someone will be listening to them, wishing they had been alive to see a concert, to see them in action.

Then again, who wouldn't want to see all 9 members kick ass on stage? Not a true maggot, thats what...Now only if they'd come to Canada on the next tour...

Ok, All the people that say Joey Jordison is an average drummer, man, youve got it wrong, hes one of the most taleneted fastest drummers in the world. Maggot Or Not, Slipknot is one of the best bands alive today. An I am a maggot, And yes, I heard Wait And Bleed Aswell.. And It got me started. And the people say about Mush-Room Head Started the masks.. Ok maybe they did, but they dont exist anymore, well according to the maggots, I mean, Mush Room Head or Slipknot? Ok that was my rant. All you maggos, HELL YEAH!

Yes, Slipknot are good, they have some class songs, they are slightly comnmercialised but in the end does it matter if the media intervene or contribute towards a band's coverage?. Answer me these questions, if you enjoy music so much, is it worth giving bands genre based labels? I don't think so personally. Is it worth throwing your toys out of your pram when someone says they do not like Slipknot? Again, no I don't think it is worth the time, effort, arguments and/or frustration. Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to freedom of speech but it doesn't mean an opinion that is differing from someone else's doesn't warrant a pathetic e-quarrell does it? People should learn to be accepting of other people's opinions and get on with it, if you cannot accept other people's opinions then I suggest going back to primary school, or at least keep a lid on it. The world is hostile enough as it stands, we don't need the internet, a medium that creates the opposite feeling, to go down the crapper do we? As it only spoils people's fun and enjoyment that is attained via surfing the internet.

Rant over. Back to Slipknot. How they can function well being a nine piece band is beyond me but they do deserve credit for it. Even if they quit tomorrow, for grinding out 4 albums (excluding EP's) they deserve credit of a considerable amount as it is surely no easy achievement.

Children of Bodom are about as much Death Metal as Culture Club. I suppose it's easy to see how simple vocals can fool people, though. They're more of a melodicized Speed Metal band, with some Power Metal influence, and VERY LIMITED traces of Death and Black Metal influence. Honestly, this whole "melodeath" thing is a farce, anathema to the very purpose for which Death Metal came about.
As for Slipknot being a Metal band, I highly disagree. Simply put, they started off as a Rapcore act (which is a combination of Rap and Hardcore - NOT Metal), and all they really did in their later albums was change up the proportions of their crossover influences. They reduced the Rap/R&B influences, but still, the Metal influence isn't enough to make them an actual Metal band. Even now, they still have too much crossover to really be solidly put into one genre. Mind you, if you like Slipknot, this is no reason for you not to listen to them. I for one, have much more respect for a Slipknot fan who truly likes the band, and disregards the criticism they receive for it, than I do for these bandwagoner fringe core faggots who just drop everything, and jump on whatever trend they can find to try fitting in.
As for the "True Metal" discussion, seeing bands like Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, and so forth, is getting really annoying. True-to-form Metal is NOT melodicized, symphonic, or anything of the sort. Of course, the fact that a band like Pantera, who do play a True-to-form style of Metal, gets ripped on by these "n3krokiddies" who listen to two-riff-per-song "evil" Black Metal, while they chant "death to false Metal", is really absurd.

...Children Of Bodom are a melodic death metal band. Where the hell did screamo come from? Some of you people need to learn your genres...
And Slipknot is Nu-Metal -> which is not a real 'metal' genre

Slipknot is an awesome band. And their first album, below says is too much rap metal, but they have rap metal because they are Nu-Metal. They aren't Heavy Metal, They aren't prog, thrash, black or death metal either. They take Rap, Hip-Jop, Punk, Rock, Hard Rock etc and combine them to make their own metal. They are also considered Alt. Metal, because they have their own image and sound that is all their own.

As for the comment below, Children of Bodom is not a screamo band. They are a power-metal, that isn't Alexi Laiho screaming, it's basically his growling. All it is really is, for example, a higher tone of the growling used by bands like Arch Enemy or Opeth.

Slipknot rules. Hands down, they are true metal. Thing is, their first album is too rap-metal, and their new one is too mainstream. Listen to IOWA all the way through. Then come back and tell me they suck.

Also, Avenged Sevenfold isn't screamo. Atreyu is, but a more screamo band is like Bullet For My Valentine or Children of Bodom. And it's all about the music. Personally, my favorite band is Demon Hunter (hence, Sermon vs. Pentagram).

Why are all you people getting so offended if someone insults Slipknot? A first I intended to write my opinion and carry on merrily on my jouney of life. But this is so hilarious! Everyone is getting so worked up about "non-maggots" insulting Slipkot. I have stated my views on why they are rubbish. True, they are not as crap as metalcore/emocore (fake metal) bands, but they are still freaking nu-metal. Why they need a turntable is beyond comprehension. So I will post this up and see how many of you get worked up again.
(Some of you I swear have maggots for brains. Get it? Ho ho)

Slipknot have gotta be (without a doubt) the biggest legends to ever roam this planet. To all you dicksnaps out there who have ever said a bad word about Slipknot, you guys need major education, you suck so much!

Slipknot is the best band ever, ever since i heard wait and bleed i wanted to hear more of their songs and i did. I love their music, Corey's voice is amazing, Joey's drumming is THE greatest! the guitarists fuckin rule! the whole band is legendary!

I didn't like heavy music until i heard slipknot, I was amazed. These guys are incredible. What they do is art, no matter what the non-maggots say.

Slipknot's lyrics are so deep, meaningful and strong. The true maggots know what the songs are about.
People who don't love slipknot's music don't appreciate the effort put into their songs, they do a great job with everything.

With some bands, the music gets worse each time they make a new album, but slipknot always manage to make awesome, new music and I love that about them.

Slipknot is NOT original. The masks look ridiculous and they weren't the first to come up with the idea believe it or not. Mushroomhead formed 1993 and they wear masks, and Slipknot formed 1995. They are another money-making commrcialised band. They are in the 'heavier' end of MTV music, but the with same aggressive emo lyrics. "I want to die... wahhhh!" If you want sickening lyrics that are a little more structured or original, try early Death. If you want plain nasty try Cannibal Corpse. If you want proper heavy metal listen to Metallica, Slayer, Children Of Bodom, Smyphony X etc. Go listen to those bands of supreme talent, that play heavy music without sounding like they are popping a lung. Listen to Slipknot and Korn, and then listen to Necrophagist, Meshuggah - the works. What's great about these 'true' metal bands is that they have MELODY. Yes people, no chugging distorted crap. Proper talent and melody. Look up the defination of 'melody' if you have no clue what it is. Although I doubt half of you even know what proper heavy metal is. So do yourself a favour and listen to some intelligent music.

I dont really understand...what makes heavy metal and other sub genres of it more music then slipknots mix of genres?
i think that Slipknot produces quality music, i like the aggressivity and i think the agressivity is not alike the agressivity in real world, what i find in agressivity in the real world is, more or less, distruction. In music agressivity feels like destruction of everything but you dont hurt anything, you dont destruct anything. Is kind of a way to get your need of destruction whitout hurting anyone. It is hard t explain, i dont think you got the diffrense there.

i like the agressivity i find in their music. Their lyrics are good and deep, you might not think that, though everybody interpret lyrics and other kind of art in diffrent ways, which makes art so important, it makes you invidual.

I like the screaming, i think its a piece of art, it doesent sound like just screaming it have a kind of rythm. Hard to explain music is something that is, according to me, all about taste and the taste of people are all diffrent.

I never heard them at MTV i just heard them by chance when i tried out soem new bands.
And of course those who thinks that slipknot is a heavy metal band are wrong, very very very WROONG! Thats because of MTV.

But you should think that the genre of slipknot is pretty new and it havent got a name yet, you know it takes time for that. Like deep purple and other bands from that time are now mostly called hard rock band beacaouse they have more similia structure to hard rock music then nowadays heavy metal. But they where the first heavy metal band any way, accoring to some.
Anyway as i said slipknot is not a specific genre, it have some small similiarities to nu metal and other subgenres of heavy metal and is by that called a kind of metal band.

dude, nobody cares if you, just one person, thinks they suck. This forum is for fans, and not people who hate the band. Understand that just because you published this comment, does not mean that Maggots such as myself out there are going to think as you do. Slipknot is THE top band to people. Live with it.
