The Reviews about San Sebastian (page 1/ 2)
------ performed by Sonata Arctica

Great recap of a Spanish holiday | Reviewer: Ed | 1/19/10

I don't think there's any metaphor going on here. Tony just had a nice holiday in Spain sitting in the sun. Unfortunately, as he is from Finland he gets sunburned easily and now he is back in Finland for the winter where it's dark almost all day (close to the Arctic Circle and all that).

Learn to sunscreen, Tony!

IMHO, the song about the girl who he met in San Sebastian, Spain. And he compares her with the sun as he was stunned by her beauty, and hadn't strength to come to her and strike up an acquaintance, the only strength he possessed was to come to the girl who was only the moon in comparison with the Sun of San Sebastian. Very emotional song, one of the best from Sonata Arctica!

my interpretation of this song is that San sebastian is the womean as you all agreed and "the sun" is her love, so it is to the "love of san sebastian" that he is singing to, thats why he says that "the sun of San Sebastian is just too hot for me" so that love is too much for him and, i dont know why, but he thinks he doesnt deserve it... this concept can explain every part of the song except for this one that i cant find any scence...

ook what have I done to the San Sebastian
I wasted all my childhood dreams by staring at the sun
Back in time with a dream of mine
I try to find my way back to life
Burning fever, night time screamer, waiting time when I'd come alive

Im sorry if my english is not very good, Im from Argentina... SONATA RULES!

Never would have guessed them lyrics..... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/30/09

These crazy shaggy Finnish people with their accented English....I tried forever to decipher the lyrics but gave up and checked it up here. Once you start reading along though, it all makes sense and the song becomes much more enjoyable. This song was still one of my favs though. Love their epic harmonic singing and crazy double-bass music and impossible guitar solos.

Incredible! Deep & so poetic! | Reviewer: alex1313sixx | 4/28/09

Yeah I agree with everyone saying that The sun of San sabastians is a beautiful woman the protagonist love a whole lot in his child hood and adolecence. And he had a relationship with her but it failed and now he is living in sadness. What I don't get is that by saying "the moon" she means a different woman or that he is married to the moon as someone said saying he is married solitude and depression. LOVE THIS SONG!!! So deep and poetic.sonata arctica rules!!!!!!

interpretation?? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/28/09

ok The sun of San sebastian could be a girl he metin the actual city. She is so beautiful that he uses the metaphor of the sun. He fantasized about her for his entire life. But when he finally got with the girl of his dreams, she was too much for him to handle. She then left him and is with someone else while he struggles to find a rythm in his life.

WHOAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO | Reviewer: Richard | 11/26/08

This is the best song from them.. To me atleast, i connect to the lyrics in such a personal way and the energy is full of passion.

This is my favorite, then My Selene, then everything else by them is great. My favorite band.

I really love this song but I don`t get clearly how San Sebastian fits the lyric.
I think that it's just a poetic way to call the girl (sun of san sebastian), but don't have any connection with the historical character of the cristianity.
The last 2 lines:
"live in shade" he repeat many times "now my skies are turning grey", I think that he finaly lost her forever. "and I am married to the moon", this means that he is alone and sleep every night with the moon as his only company, because "I wasted all my childhood dreams by staring at the sun" and he was never able to do this "I try to find my way back to life", or find someone else, because he only have eyes for her.
Finally "and the sun of San Sebastian is warming someone new", she is now with someone else...

Probably it's deeper than I can understand, such as San sebastian meaning, the "Burning fever" part (i don't get it), and some others gaps...

Maybe it makes reference to the city "San Sebastian" in the Basque Country, between Spain and France.

It's a beautiful city and the foreigners use to get embelessed with it.

I wonder if the lyrics refer to the city really.
