uh... | Reviewer: Hiro | 7/11/09

i know this may have a meaning but instead of guessing lets just say it has no meaning like Aerials from System of a down.... until tool tells us what it means its best thought we have no place in telling eachother what its about

My thoughts | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/7/09

I think they try to say that we should do what we want, and in this case, smoking pot. Like when they say "who are you to wave your finger".. I think that refers to the government. That they can not decide, and they should not. Don't let yourself be controlled by fear. And when the say "you must have been so high"... the way they're saying "so high" is a very delicate way to say it. They vocals are very smooth right there.. Listen it over.. Think as if you were high when they said that. You kind of get dragged in to the pot world.. haha.. Well, that's what I think..

But anyways, very good song! :)

yeahh | Reviewer: katie | 7/5/09

this is most likely about hypocrisy. 'the pot calling the kettle black.' eye balls deep in muddy waters is basically saying what you think you know isn't the whole picture. very very good song no matter what you take from it though. tool is amazing

Double Entendre | Reviewer: David | 7/2/09

Double Entendre - Look it up guys. You all are right. There are several meanings placed into the lyrics of the song. Its meant to appeal to large audiences so of course many people see many things in the song. Its like an abstract painting that way. Of course its completely possible its about hypocracy. Of course its completely possible its about smoking pot. For these reasons the lyrics are written abstractly, you wouldn't ever be able to carry on a conversation the way the lyrics are written. Abstract thoughts bring about abstract interpretations and I'm sure Tool wouldn't like their fans arguing over what the song literally means. Tanky tanky.

right and wrong | Reviewer: sely | 6/30/09

i think everybody here is both right and wrong, the song does talk about the pot calling the kettle black, but this doesn't mean necesarily that they're are talking about weed, to me it's about a jury, and government judging us citizens (maybe about drugs) but being themselves corrupt. this would be the reference to the kangeroo (kangeroo court), and the kettle (corrupt government), remember people in this song they're using the word high as a soort of bad thing, not saying that tool does not like pot, we know they do, but i think what they mean by this is the common phrase when someone does something stupid "are you high"?.

WATCH THE VIDEO MORONS!! | Reviewer: Keagan:) | 6/26/09

For one who the fuck cares about the lyrics being wrong in some part listen and enjoy the song and secondly watch the video its a Pot Farmer harvesting weed so no its not about the pot calling the kettle black its about pot! so just stop being a critic and enjoy the song.

Mean song | Reviewer: Jaimee | 6/18/09

Who cares!! This song is just fucking awesome!!!
Quit wingeing over what its about or what lyrics are wrong. Everyone is alowed to take this song as they want. It can mean different things for different people. Just a fucking great song!! :)

OMG who cares | Reviewer: :)(: | 6/12/09

Who cares what the song is really about I think that you are all looking to hard at the lyrics and not just enjoying the song. As for being high I love to be high and listen to tool... Pot is not an addictive drug not physically anyways... Opiates are addictive physically because your body quits producing dopeamines and that is why heroin addicts and opiate addicts get "dope sick" you have no dopamines in your body so you get physically ill, pot may be mentally addictive I dont know I have not done it enough to tell you. I think what they are saying is just get high and listen to their music

The Pot Smoker? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/4/09

Idiots. major themes: Hypocrits and juding others, The title THE POT refers to 'THE POT' calling the kettle black, not pot smoking, lay off the weed for 2 seconds and you will realsie that not everyhting is related to drugs, you take one or two sentacnes from a song and relate the whole meaning to that minute part, read and think about the whole thing and take a holistic view of what is being communicated. Tool are fantastic artists with meanings often so hidden/cryptic that it pays not to try and assume too much for fear of missing the point all together, another saying seems appropriate "some people are so far behind they actually think they are leading"

"Ok. So. Where do I start. Correcting lyrics seems to be the most important. So first. No. I repeat NO fucking kangaroos. It's. "change-a-roo". And second. "your weeping seems a CHOSEN INTERVAL". And. ...... Head up ass SO what you talkin bout. And to those of you who insist this song is about smoking pot. Please take all your tool cd's and burn them. You are too stupid to be tool fans and you just get in my way a concerts. "

It refers to kangaroo courts, also, it is partly about pot as "Ganjah" is a type of cannabis.

Justification is a drug | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/8/09

This may not be true but I could see Tool doing something like this. I heard that the band just took a dictionary and picked 50-60 random words and put them together to try to make semi-sense. Hence, 'you must've been high' to actually think that this song has a defined meaning(like an inside joke to the band). Truely I think it does explain the way we live to a certain point. We don't understand the point of life, much like the point of this song, because there is not one(Trapped without reason). We're trapped without reason so we create on, no matter how absurd we make that reason out to be. I believe the song is not truely about drugs(physically), but (mentally) the ideas that we are justified in our ways because we claim we know the meaning. This belief becomes a drug to us, our own 'high'. So again 'you must've been high'. Tool constantly speaks about living without worship, that there are no gods or better people, and that everyone is truely equal(Liar, lawyer; mirror show me, what's the difference?). What a great world it would be if people stopped senselessly believing they were better. This is just my opinion and to me this song is very powerful. Although if someone can verify if the random drawing of 50-60 words from the dictionary as true, I would like to know. Peace.

wow tards, check this out!!! | Reviewer: Alex | 4/5/09

Try researching guys wow, that one shane dude is wrong too haha but molly is right ENJOY!

Adam Jones has confirmed that the title refers to hypocrisy. The lyrics contain metaphors and references to kangaroo courts, the phrase "pot calling the kettle black," marijuana legislation, and finger waving. The use of of the word "high" is a double entendre, referring to both drug intoxication and believing oneself to be above others.

Ganja Not Addictive? | Reviewer: ConnorD4Choice | 3/27/09

alright to clear the air about pot being addaictive. it is both mentally and physically. with pot thc lelves exceding 30 precent it is a whole diffrent drug from the seventys with a precent under 5. Physically, if smoken daily, can effect you hunger,ie: i cant eat if i dont smoke when i wake up at lunch or before dinner. if i fail to smoke i often puke. thats what cali bud does and 2 oz a week. Mentally, it can increase anxity, Make PTSD worse if you dont use in moderation, along with the feeling of being addictive. Many doctors hold these statments true. Trust me on this one guys im no small fish in the big sea.
