I loved this sweet, happy song when it first came out. It felt so lighthearted. A few months later, 9-11 happened and the song started to sound wistful and nostalgic to me, yet always remained among my favorite songs to play and to play on guitar. The Spike Jonze video makes it feel light and sweet again.

it makes me miss my childhood, miss the playing time with my parents and my friends.. but at the same time it makes me want to be a teenager in love, makes me want to be with the one i love..

For me "Island in the Sun" is about a secret, forbidden love. Fantasizing about and wishing you could be with the one you love but situations will never allow it ... but you can't get her out of your mind ... happy feelings for sure ... but I also feel the pain that it will never be so.

i swear this song is about smoking the herb with a few freinds just to find some peace relaxation and solitude. they just felt they had to loosen up and let go of all their troubles and they found their fortitude on the island in the sun... im high

i would say this is the best and one of the most catchies songs i know. when i listen to the song it just makes me feel happy. also when i sing this song i just feel so confiden, happy, and a few times i've almost cried tears of joy

Well I think this song is more than just yourself it could be about u and the one u love maybe both of u are together forever and u let the world take u where ever u want too also its more to me like a love song but hey that's my opinion and well this song I think reminds me of being in love with that special girl and both of u are together and being happy playing and having fun together and spend time forever.

this is my fav song of all time and it has been for three years straight now it will always rule and i disagree i thought aquamarine was pretty good not great but okay and at least it spread interest in this great song to young people who now have matured enough to love this song without watching aquamarine. :P

i dont know about his personal life but my grandfather has alzheimers and the song fits.

I know this song, because I like Weezer and not because of a movie. How ever, even if you know it from this movie, you know it and you could all be happy cause this song is soo good!

this song is about more than that fucking movie! it's about being comfortable in your own skin and being able to express discomfort to others. It's deep! it's about not having to deal with the world and it's problems; disappearing. It's a struggle that every teenager goes through and I commend Weezer for writing such an relatable piece of music.
