Yes, this song was inspired by aspects of the Da Vinci Code - the key word in that being "aspects". This song is not about some conspiracy - just that throughout history we have used God as an excuse to do horrible things, like the Crusades. That happens to be an obvious example, we've done other things like that as well.
Liiiiiike..... Da Apocalypse? *dissolves into laughter* | Reviewer: Raven | 7/23/08
Oh, quite honestly, what can this terrible truth be? I'll admit I'm Catholic, (although hardly orthodox, I'm what you call a "Unitarian Universalist Catholic" aka not Catholic)though open to different ideas... and quite honestly, subrosa/luvbabys, people have been touting "Church conspiracy" theories for CENTURIES. Yet have I to come across a convincing one that the entire world does not know of. Look, the Catholic Church ain't a perfect institution by any means, but it's hardly the institution of evil-similar to the Jewish and Islamic religions (And all other religions): They have all had their issues and eras of wongdoing. HOWEVER They, by themselves, are not bad. Peopl who practice them, yes, some CAN be. (Stressing the CAN, okay, my uptight peers!)
This isn't about the Da Vinci code, is it? (Please pause whilst I laugh hysterically.) Look, I actually read some of that. Not godawful, but it's JUST. A. NOVEL. I'm pretty certain. ^^ Okay? Okay.

i think this song is about a truth that has been hidden for centuries and just recently was revieled to people.. the truth about jeasus's life
first paragraph is about doubting and realising the reason why all these wars about relegion.
"the beast" are all those who do anything to hide the truth from us and kill without limmit..all these because they want us blind all these because they want power and money..and because if people's eyes are finaly open a disaster beyond imagination will occur

i think this song is about a truth that has been hidden for centuries..a truth tha recently came out to the world...about jeasus and his life.. (Give me strength to face the truth
The doubt within my soul
No longer I can justify
The bloodshed in his name)
in this part she says that she has doubts about the whole history of his life and the unnumbered wars in his name..(unumbered wars for relegion)
"the beast" are those who try to hide the truth from us at any cost no matter how many they have to kill all that because if peoples eyes open a terrible desaster will occur
Definitely about the Crusades | Reviewer: Raven | 6/16/08
Continuing to make my case for the Crusaes theory: Obviously they were fought in the name of God. Crusaders who died in battle were promised to enjoy immediate remission of sins and go straight to Heaven ["This paradise denied to me 'cause I can take no more" seems to indicate that the crusader refuses to fight.] This appears to be about a crusaderess-yes, there were indeed female crusaders!-who refuses to fight, seeing the terror and bloodshed wreaking havoc about her. Evidently, she still retains her faith ["I'm hoping, I'm praying/I won't get lost between two hearts", "Will I learn what's truly sacred?/Will I redeem my soul?/Will truth set me free?" and "Forgive me my sins" are some examples of evidence for this] and she is trying to show others around her what madness this is and trying to stop them ["How can blood be your salvation/
And justify the pain/That we have caused throughout the times?"].
Then again I prefer to look at "The Truth Beneath The Rose" as: A.) a precedent to "Our Solemn Hour", and b.) Yet another awesome song by Within Temptation.
Astute of you, Anonymous! | Reviewer: Raven | 6/16/08
THANK YOU, ANONYMOUS. Most (but not all) of the friends who listened to this song gasped and told me "Stop listening to this band, 'cuz they're saying God is evil". (After which I yelled various colorful words and switched the song to "The Cross". Anyone who believes that this is the message should listen to "The Cross" and "Our Solemn Hour", then read the comments. Thanks.)
This is, I think, about someone in the Middle Ages realizing that the Crusades had become madness, and really were a stupid idea in the first place that could only result in severe bloodshed. Specifically, I think that this might've taken place after the Children's Crusade. (For those of you who haven't had History/S.S. in a while, the Children's Crusade was when many children decided to get on ships and/or march to the Holy Land to fight a crusade against the Muslims who'd conquered Constantinople. This ended tragically-most of the kids never got to Constantinople. They died of hunger or were sold into slavery.) Aside from that, lovely song.
Whoo. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/21/08
I think this song's amazhing. To me, it's probably about a killer in the name of God who has seen that he's done wrong.
'The beast', as usual, it's like the negativity within us all, the bad/evil that we are unable to restrain. 'The veil of my dreams', the veil that shielded the person from being able to see exactly what is ahead of him.
This song is contrasting heaven (holy) and the darkness (evil) and how people can be so overconsumed by the notion of going to heaven and serving, such that it blinds them from the actual thing itself.
