Well oh they might wear classic Reeboks
Or knackered Converse
Or tracky bottoms tucked in socks
But all of that's what the point is not
The points thats there ain't no romance around there
And there's the truth that they can't see
They'd probably like to throw a punch at me
And if you could only see them, then you would agree
Agree that there ain't no romance around there
You know, oh it's a funny thing you know
We'll tell 'em if you like
We'll tell 'em all tonight
They'll never listen
Beause their minds are made up
And course it's all okay to carry on that way
And over there there's broken bones
There's only music, so that there's new ringtones
And it don't take no Sherlock Holmes
To see it's a little different around here
Don't get me wrong though, there's boys in bands
And kids who like to scrap with pool cues in their hands
And just cause he's had a coupla cans
He thinks it's alright to act like a dickhead
Don't you know, oh it's a funny thing you know
We'll tell em if you like
We'll tell em all tonight
They'll never listen
Because their minds are made up
And course it's all okay to carry on that way
But I said no!
Oh no!
Well you won't get me to go!
Not anywhere, not anywhere.
No, i won't go!
Oh no, no!
Well over there there's friends of mine
What can I say, I've known 'em for a long long time
And they might overstep the line
But i you just cannot get angry in the same way
No not in the same way
So not in the same way
Oh no, oh no no

Review about A Certain Romance The point is that theres no.... | Reviewer: amy dls | 11/12/09
I hate to get into this brit/US arguement but can you honestly say that americans relate
to lyrics like
"At least he hasn't got a Nova Or a Burberry hat" from songs like bigger boys and stolen sweethearts... somehow i really just dont picture kids in tracky bottoms with knackered white novas drinking tennants or white lighting and banging out trance music to have any relevance to people from anywhere outside of the UK... sorry.
In my opinion | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/30/09
in my opinion its about how love is over rated in teenage life and how us teens strive to "get a girlfriend" when its purley material and fashionable to have a boy/girlfriend. to them its a joke and pretend its like treating a person like an item keep it then throw it away when your bored

obviously this is a more typical example of british life. in fact you could say northern british life because the artic monkeys are from there of course and they write songs on their own experience. but like all music it has a wider meaning.
Quote and speak about teenagers. | Reviewer: Brandon | 8/22/09
i think this song talks about how all the shit teens do today is so empty, relationships with anyone, and they do stuff without good reason. for example looking cool just to make yourself feel better than everyone else...."
Teenagers.. I hate them so much and I am one. It's the quest for authenticity that lead them to stupidity because they can't get there head around what is real or not. I dated a girl for four years because I thought she was just like me, but she's like the youth of today.. Idiocy grabs hold of all those 'round. The worst part is, these people are supposed to be the future of tomorrow.. Isn't the world getting fucked up?
Stop having a go at britons and americans!! You're all being ridiculous! | Reviewer: Camilleeeeee | 5/28/09
"Well oh they might wear classic Reeboks

Well clearly it's talking about stereotypes (I feel that it mostly reflects the chav-emo divide that's been going on for a while in Britain but it can also be applied to every country where sub-cultures are clashing against each-other which is causing the 'lack of romance around here' that the Arctic Monkeys are talking about.)
So it's not about either americans or britons, it's about subcultures in any country clashing.
Foolish xenophobic comments...

To Lee, who the fuck are you to take anyone seriously? You sound like a fucking child when you act like Americans are following Brits just hoping they will accept them. Coming from someone who lives in the states, no one gives a shit whether you take us seriously or not.

ummm...its kinda funny, u yanks and brits go on with your sidewalk and pavement bollocks.i not only do love britpop and for that matter i dig the strokes, yeah yeah yeahs, sebadoh, guided by voices and all that jazz, rhythm and blues...but talking about A Certain kinda romance, teenagers and all..the song is just swelllerifik, lyrics, guitars, musicwise but i reckon someone here commented something about MCR too..i dunno, dont like them much but i dont loathe them at all and their song "TEENAGERS" got something too..maybe you wear classic reeboks or knackered converse and (vice versa)them yank kids wear dark clothes and strike violent poses....BTW Reeboks and Converse are US Of A brands???Duh?and all those dark, gothic, punk and black (Mebbe even EMO)are the bastards of Brit Invasions from metal to new wave, post punk etc& co...so whats the issue about it all, the Arctic monkees have sent us to heaven with this certain kinda music. is all.
lol, america | Reviewer: Lee | 3/13/09
As a wise man once said:
'Americans want grungy people, stabbing themselves in the head on stage. They get a bright bunch like us, with deodorant on, they don't get it.' Liam Gallagher.
They will never understand our sophisticated and superior music scene, and these little yank kids posting frankly, utter bullshit just proves it.
Psst, make more bands like Kings of Leon, The Eagles and The Killers, and less like fucking My Chemical Romance, and we might start to take you seriously.

A Certai Romance | Reviewer: rob | 1/18/09
i think that the song is talking about teenagers and kids in general. It doesn't really matter where you live, teenagers are always the same, no matter where you are. there are a million different groups and theres always the group that thinks theyre better than everyone else, people that live to be what other people want them to be. that they only like people who other people like. and if they only like what other people love, then there really is no love for themselves, romance. its kinda sad...
i really like the line "There's only music, so that there's new ringtones". It really shows whats happening today. people dont appreciate music for what it is, and how people only listen to music that other people would approve of. i dunno, cell phones, computers facebook, its all slowly tearing apart our society, and the things that really matter like music, are slowly disappearing... at least good music.
