I Lyrics and Words by Lawrence Gowan
from his album Strange Animal
You've seen my hands are steady
You've seen my face before
Soon you can take your last look
And they'll close the door
I stand accused before you
I have no tears to cry
And you will never break me
Until the day I die
A criminal mind was all I
All I've ever known
They've tried to reform me
But I'm made of cold stone
My criminal mind is all I
All I've ever had
Ask one who's known me
If I'm really so bad...
I am
I've spent my life behind these steel bars
I've paid my debt in time
But being brought to justice
That was my only crime
I don't regret a single action
I'd do the same again
These prison walls secure me
And I'm numb to pain
A criminal mind is all I
All I've ever known
They've tried to reform me
But I'm made of cold stone
My criminal mind is all I
All I've ever had
Ask one who's known me
If I'm really so bad...
I am
Before you hand me over
Before you read my sentence
I'd like to say a few words
Here in my own defense
Some people struggle daily
They struggle with their conscience 'til the end
I have no guilt to haunt me
I feel no wrong intent
A criminal mind is all I
All I've ever known
Don't try to reform me
Cause I'm made of cold stone
My criminal mind is all I
All I've ever had
Ask one who's known me
If I'm really so bad...
I am
Oh I am
Oh I am
I'm made of cold stone
Made of cold stone
I'm just like these prison walls
A criminal mind

Review about A Criminal Mind Mistake rebut | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/5/09
This song was written by Gowan in the 80's that is true, however giving Styx credit for this song is correct as well. This song is featured on the album "One With Everythings: Styx & The Contemporary Youth Orchestra" and "Styxworld". And is performed in every Styx concert since Gowan joined Styx. Gowan has added this a Styx song.
Larry Gowan has been releasing albums since the 80's. He was a popular artist in Canada for many years. I am quite surprised that he does not have his own entry here.
He started touring as a double bill with Styx, and was chosen as the new lead singer when DeYoung was ousted
better ever song | Reviewer: tanya cucak | 9/22/08
I really like this song, becase i like to feel music.I was heard for this group first time when my cousun from america gives me live video from concert of this group.I think it could have been written I ever seen before.
I really like this poem bacause it reflects the thoughts and thinkings of a criminal and even tough you dont see you can tell that he is suffering in the inside but he pretends no te be hurt.
Good lyrics, even better song | Reviewer: PuffOfLogic | 6/4/07
Music and lyrics are both equally impressive. They compliment each other well, and song carries certain strength and determinaiton throughout. Seems to be longer than most songs, and at first I thought it could have been written for a movie or theater.
A criminal Mind.....Not a crime | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/26/06
In listining to this, he has some Dennis's intonations, and some good writing. Not bad for a replacement. A Decent replacement, but styx will never exist again in their true form. what ever that mey be
