Biography:
Ashtar was founded in 1997 by Luiz Garcia and Daniel Dobbin. The band combines various musical genres and a diversity of instruments, which in this case it becomes hard to describe the band´s style and genre. They blend basicaly progressive with metal and celtic folk, the lyrics writen by Luiz Garcia are based on esoteric theories, reincarnations, feelings, laments and glories of Scottish and Irish and the celtic world in general.
Besides Luiz Garcia (acostic & electric guitars, vocals, whistles, theremin, bodhran) and Daniel Dobbin (drums & percussion) the band is united with Fernanda Gollo (vocals, whistles, acoustic guitars and bódhran), Fabio Guilherme (bass), the spanish Oswaldo Velasco (violins) and the british Rob Gould (keyboards).
In 1999 Ashtar began the recordings of there debut album, Urantia, which was finally accomplished in 2002 and released in Brasil by by the label Rock Symphony and in France by the label Musea. The promotional gig of the release of the album was an acoustic perfomance in a venue in Rio de Janeiro which occurred in September 2003 almost one year later, and had for special guest no one but legendary focus guitar player Jan dumeé. In November, also 2003, Ashtar perfomed a gig in Rio Art Rock together with the well none Wishbone Ash. |
