Attack Lyrics - System of a Down

Review The Song (16)

Breathing each others lives,
Holding this in mind,
That if we fall, we all fall,
And we fall alone.

The cold insincerity of steel machines,
Have consumed our euphoria,
Transforming us into muted dreams,
Dreaming of the day that...

We attack,
Attack, attack your fetal servitude,
We attack,
Attack, attack, attack with pesticide,
We attack,
All the years of propaganda,
We shall attack!

Books illustrate what we already know,
Candles cry towards the sky,
Raising your flags along polluted coasts,
Dreaming of the day that...

We attack,
Attack, attack your fetal servitude,
We attack,
Attack, attack, attack with pesticide,
We attack,
All the years of propaganda,
We shall attack!

Attack! (Attack!)

Breathing each others lives,
Holding this in mind,
That if we fall, we all fall,
And we fall alone.

Breathing each others lives,
Holding this in mind,
That if we fall, we all fall,
And we fall alone.

What's the philosophy of displaced mines
The bombing of all homes and villages
Truth is the only sword bleeding minds,
Bleeding till the day that...

We attack,
Attack, attack your fetal servitude,
We attack,
Attack, attack, attack with pesticide
We attack,
All the years of propaganda
We shall attack!

Attack all the homes and villages,
Attack all the schools and hospitals,
You attack all the rapes and pillages,
We shall attack!

We shall attack!

"This song is about our current situation in this world and, what's been leading up to all the war like destruction that we are seeing today. They are attacking us with PESTICIDES, (in our food) they attack with PROPAGANDA, (our T.V. and magazines) and our fetal servitude, (being born into slavery). They are trying to tell you that we are "their" little lab rats, and they are taking us out with polluting our food chain, and making us slaves to them and their wars."

Completely agree with the above statement. =)

my opinion | Reviewer: Thomas | 7/2/10

I agree with Rebecca, but according to me it's especially about world war 1

Because before this war, all nations were very nationalistic and everyone thought that their nation would dominate the others in a war. But when they fall, the whole nation falls, and every individual will fall alone.
I think it's about this war, because before 1914, there was the industrial revolution. Machines were made, and people thought life was getting much better (euphoria). In reality, the poor
people found themselves slaves of the machines (consumed(consumerism arose with this revolution), transformed) and wished they could prove themselves in a war (which according to them, would be won).
Raising flags = nationalistic (country's flag)
fetal servitude = attack to become free (proletariat, marxism), fetal because they are dependent of the rich
polluted = industrial revolution
propaganda arose with the industrial depression.
Breathing each others lives (rich people exploited the proletariat)
mines are also referring to this revolution before world war 1
And especially bombing, there was much bombing (like you know) in world war 1 and 2.

This is my (maybe limited and naive) opinion. If my English is bad, i hope it's understandable and i hope this is adding some value.

um. but i thought.... | Reviewer: Rebecca | 3/22/10

Idk guys, ive been a super fan of SOD since i was like five yrs old... and ive always known they had big meanings in their music... but so far i havent seen any of you guys attempt to properly analyze this song. [and although i know everyone is going to think what they want] im just gonna throw this out there.... i think this song is about war, yes, but also about how when you have group of soldiers...they are no longer individuals, but a mass group that if they fail in whatever mission they have, our whole country fails. If they fall we do to. But i also think this song is about over relying on our fighters' and forgetting that they are humans and they get scared as well. Also it describes how our fighters ave to blindly follow orders, and even though history is telling us what we should realize is going to happen `textbooks tell us what we already know`, we are still going to fight with machines that we already use too heavily... despite everyones flag raising and calls for peace.

also i feel that it doesnt speak of a specific war like most of their songs do... butrather wars in general. and how even though we all share the same breath we still fight when we shouldbe more worried ver more important issues like pollution of our homelands`', instead of pollution of the mind [propaganda]. this song is like saying `see this is what we knew was going to happen...pointless destruction`

Great song | Reviewer: a message from Altair | 7/15/09

They are a great band that put big messages in all their songs, trying to get people to see the reality of life, and who really runs our gov't.
You do know the ones with the most money overthrow everyone ("Royal bloodline's" hint hint).
With money you can puppeteer everything and everyone.
A moneyless society is the only way I can see us overthrowing this corrupt govt, since money gives power and can be used to eliminate those who don't listen. But if there was no value to money and everyone was equal, then they wouldn't have power.
To do this we would have to slowly create villages that have no use with money.
There are hundreds of millions starving right now, I don't see why this won't work.

soad is the most unique band i have ever seen. It's not just becuase the vocals are most of the time oddly distorted. Its because of the way they reach out, with their anti-war songs. All the way down to their songs that do not make an ounce of sense. Good job soad, keep it up

soad is the best band | Reviewer: roxana | 5/26/09

i dont know why you compare soad with metalica, metalica is very good band but a band like a lot of the other bands, soad is the most diferent band, did you ever seen a band like this, cant deny that they are best and diferent in their role in the band, their lyrics are so strange and full of beautiful meaning, this song like thier most of songs is anti-war and very powerfull massege

this suit is noooot black | Reviewer: tony414 | 2/25/09

This song kicks arse and soad do as well. to those dudes who were talking about metallica, they're good, but they sond like every other rock band from that era. The system are their own genre of music!

Pretty sure this song is about overthrowing the government and how we should not listen to the bullshit or propoganda they feed us the government doesnt give a shit about us all it cares about is money. Im not gonna lie i think the government USA in particular is on its way to dictatorship without us knowing, all of our freedoms are going to shit, you cant even walk up to a pig and say your a worthless piece of shit without getting arrested but you say it to someone else and they call the cops they wont give a shit. If i could i would assemble a massive army and kill everyone in a government position. I hate america.

WRONG ! | Reviewer: Bloodsucker | 8/25/08

You are big Metallica fun, I'm too, i love 47 songs of them, but... you cannot compare these bands... Metallica did much more for music than SOAD, but System did much more for humanity than Metallica, Metallica's songs are better instrumentaly, but System songs have lyrics that means something. That's why these bands are so different.

This song is good, but System did about 40 songs even better than this shit!
