Simply put, Beck is one of the most critically acclaimed
musicians of the 1990s, the latest artist to be dubbed "the
next Bob Dylan" by industry pundits. Like Dylan, Beck
writes songs with cryptic lyrics, but unlike Dylan Beck
draws not only from folk and rock traditions, but also from
hip-hop, blues, country, psychedelic music, lo-fi indie
rock, and other seemingly contradictory genres, creating a
shambling collage-like sound all his own. Since bursting on
to commercial radio and MTV in 1993, Beck has successfully
maintained his artistic integrity yet managed to win over
millions of fans, a rare combination of critical and
commercial success.

------ About the song Missing performed by Beck
This song is rather interesting in my opinion. It's definitely not something you hear everyday. The melodies/harmonies, the instruments, the beat... It's not something one would expect everyday. And that's why I respect Beck. He's a visionary.

------ About the song Loser performed by Beck
There is actually no real meaning whatsoever in this song. In the early 90's he was in his studio playing slide guitar and he decided to try and freestyle rap. He thought it sounded dumb but his producer thought it was cool and so they turned it into a song. Its just a bunch of gibberish.

------ About the song Loser performed by Beck
Someone is interpreting this song way too deeply and is looking for something that he WANTS to find there. It's these kind of people that find inuendo in Neruda's Ode to an Artichoke.
back to the song ... i think it's a much more light-hearted version of Nirvana's Dumb. I mean, Beck clearly sees the lighter side of how much of a loser he is. Is he making fun of trailer trash? maybe, i do on a regular basis so why shouldn't he be allowed?
imho "And my time is a piece of wax fallin’ on a termite/who's chokin’ on the splinters" are key lines in the song. the termite represents him, and it's choking on splinters, basically it's terrible at what it's here for, it sucks at being a termite. that goes back to being a loser, failing at life.

------ About the song Loser performed by Beck
I dont know ppl.. being that he's a fascist scientologist who believes in eugenics (and dont tell me i dont know what im sayin, ive been there).. yes! the lyrics are genious, as with the music, and the placement of the composition as a who piece. Morally though, it's pretty f'ed up, parodizing the poor- if he was comin from there fine, if he was using it as a political representation than cool- but this is not that. The song could still be humorous and abstract while holding honest meaning & a sort of empathy. Instead of doing that, he makes it into a sarcastic/sardonic portrait of the 'humor' of lower class living- its not the humor thats sinister, its the mocking sense the lyrics give. When I was younger I loved the meaningless lyrics, though they all have meaning despite being abstract. Here're some examples of the intentional mocking coming from a fascist prospective in this song: "dogfood stalls with the beefcake pantyhose"- implying that the lowrclass have steriotypical dirty sex. "Stock car flamin' with a loser and the cruise control" flamin- as in outrageously over-the-top with... well, the cruise control implies a trucker as the loser as made know with the cruise control part; im starting to wonder why he has a loathing for truckers. The song parallels to "Truck Driving Neighbors" here, the song he also calls "Yellow Sweat." And I dont give a sh-t that this isnt offensive to some ppl, if he called you yellow sweat how much would you like that? "Gotta a couple of couches, sleep on the love seat" mocks how the lowerclass often are without furniture, and implies that they are sexually umappealing. "You get a parking violation-" so ppl living in the city dont always have driveways and have to find a spot to parallel park, yeah, okaaay.. what of it? "So shave your face with some mace in the dark" paradizes not having electricity, and the idea that poor men have no value for themselves in their own eyes or value to anyone else for that matter. "Ban all the music with a phony gas chamber" a direct reference to eugenics- if you dont know what that is maybe it time you look it up. "A slab of turkey neck and it's hangin from a pidgeon wing" so having to scrape up your meals is now something to laugh at apparently. "You cant write if you cant relate"- oh really Beck? Look whose talking. "Trade the cash for the beef for the body for the hate," making it seem like a pointless cycle to keep yourself alive if you are homeless or on the verge. So someone scrapes up some cash and buys some food, which goes to their body, keeping them alive to offer their 'hate.' "And my time..." a restatement of how pointless it is for the so-called weak to stay alive. Yeah, I guess the song kinda does remind me of Bob Dylan because Im thinkin that it might be educational for Beck to listen to Dylan's "Rolling Stone." ..or even "Hurricane." Okay now, go ahead and get mad if you want, when you kids go and join the cult if you ever come back I wont be saying I told you so. I dont need to prove myself, just gotta give a shout out to those being descriminated against in this sick and twisted song.

------ About the song Sleeping Bag performed by Beck
"sleeping bag" is from the album "one foot in the grave" -which is a great acoustic album done in his earlier years. Beck always has the most interesting lyrics and this song is no exception. The chord progression is fairly basic in this song which makes it an ideal one for anyone who wants to learn some of his stuff to play around campfires for friends and whatnot.
It's another obscure favorite that puzzles and amuses the listener with offbeat imagery and keeps 'em wondering when the chorus is going to come in. When playing live, add kazoos, harmonica, flutes, banjos, and knee slaps, mix well, rinse, repeat.

Beck is one of my favorite songwriters, and if you got a problem shut up and take in the awesome lyrics. His style of songwriting is simply to portray irony and random points he feels like writing about.

Beck has slowly become my favorite artist. His CD Guero is my favorite of all time. Guerolito is cool because it's some Guero songs remixed.
Beck is so versatile. He is truly talented. His songs can be simple, or ridiculously complex.
Beck is the most talented artist I've ever heard. (In my opinion.)

You EEDIOT! You've got the wrong title! This is "Modesto", not "Jagermeister Pie"! "Jagermeister Pie" doesn't have any lyrics! ...unless you count the girl saying "motherfucker" at the beginning.
The prepubescent birth of their folksy bluesy birth this Album is excellent!!! I recommend every one of Beck's Albums!!!!! He is probably the most creative, original, and talented people walking the planet right now!! .

------ About the song Girl performed by Beck
I'm a spanish speaker and have always liked how Beck, having grown up in a predominantly Latino neighborhood, always throws in Spanish words. Often twisting them around so they make a comic sense in English. After listening to this song a gajillion times, because I love it, and trying to figure out what he says before "Girl" it suddenly dawned on me......(that's a drumroll)....Maizena Girl.
Yeah, people are saying "WTF does that mean, no he doesn't." Hear me out. Maizena (pronounced my-sena) is a kind of Spanish flour (cornflour in particular) so the lyric becomes my Flour Girl (Flower Girl). Beck does this kind of wordplay a lot in his songs so it seems very probable to me that this is the line. I've yet to find a lyric sheet that includes this line but I simply don't buy
"My Sun-eyed girl"
"my cyanide girl"
"my summer girl"
"my sonar girl"
try it
"Maizena Girl hey"

Yea... I have to agree, this song kicks ass!
To settle the spanish confusion in the comments... vayas is the tu form of ir conjugated in the present subjunctive. pretty much it just adds a little more ambiguity to 'a donde vas'. 'a donde vayas' can be loosely translated as "Where could you be going" as opposed to simply "Where are you going"

vayas is a form of va which means go. A donde va means where are you going so a donde vayas must be the nostoros form of the word which I would then think is where are all of you going or something on that line.

If you actually listen to the one verse in reverse "?em llik uoy t'nod yhw os ,ybab resol a m'I adanaC revo raoS" It doesn't say what is written here. It's just the chorus. He singsSoy un perdedor I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?

I'm trying to figure out what vayas means. I think that might be a typo. (Granted, I don't have the actual CD with the little lyric booklet so I'm not sure.) Could it be vas, but the note changes in the middle so it sounds like two syllables? That would make sense. ¿Que onda, guero? ¿A donde vas?
Love this song, though. =)

Becks lyrics are supposed to give you impressions instead of being literal. He uses words that have abstract connotations to make you feel a certain way. For me this song brings to mind trash can fires and lousy cars, and how cool those things are.
