I dreamnt I met Beck waiting in a concert VIP line last night (he was in line to see a band too). This guy is a paradox your have to embrace - and once you do, you will begin to understand the chasm of genius he conveys through music. Listen to the album 'Guero' ten times, then post here! This happens to be the best song off of that album, but there are a few other golden greats. Jack White (Raconteurs, The White Stripes, The Dead Weather)is another artist you may want to check out if you happen to like this track.

The second greatest song to have "na na na na" in it. The first is "Short Skirt Long Jacket" by Cake but the lyrics claim it is "La la la la" even though I can distinctly here them sing "Na na na na na, na na na na na na". It is these thoughts that often hold me back in life.

The fact that Beck came up with this on the spot and BS'd it, yet came up with such a genius song. That's living proof he's an amazing musician! He did the same with the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack. It makes me wonder what went down with the rest of the album, along with "Odelay"

This song is about alcoholism. Sipping the golden dregs is a clear reference to Beer- one of several in this song. Dregs are the sediment from fermentation. Drink the latest draft--- recycled cans....This song is an indictment of an alcoholic lifestyle. The police radio sample at the beginning of the song all ties in. Death leather hands.... Alcoholism eventually wrecks your skin by making it thin and wrinkly and aged. Your an alcoholic, a deadweight.

Love the way the harmonies in this piece keep climbing unresolved. It mirrors how the singer's love life remains ever unresolved. Wonderful tension in the piece. I also love the contract between the sullen beginning and the outburst of the refrain.
