There is a train called Bette Midler, either get with it,
or get left behind.
December first, 1945 Bette Midler was born in Honolulu,
Hawaii. Bette had a difficult life growing up because she
was part of the only Jewish family, and one of the very few
white women. But Bette didnt let this stop her. Bettes
mother, Ruth; who was very fond of movies, named Bette
after a woman in the movie business; Bette Davis. Ruth had
high hopes for Bette. She showed a certain spark, an
extreme talent. She even won an award in the first grade
for singing Silent Night.
Bette worked her way thorough school. She even got a job,
working at a pineapple cannery, Bette refers to this memory
as being chief chunker, and said, I would come home
smelling like compote. Bette went to one More...

Aloha
I enjoyed reading this, some of which was new to me. I have been a Bette fan for some time. She is my alter ego, and my two old time best friends are Marcia(Diane Keaton) and Rodie (Goldie Hawn). We formed a "club" shortly after The First Wives Club, because our lives seemed to represent in some way the three characters, and we all loved the protrayals. We call ourselves the WFGs and have seen Bette perform in Minneapolis, and have seriously considered inviting the three of them(Bette, Diane and Goldie) for a very private northern Wisconsin getaway at Diane's lodge. Think they'd join us? OR do you think, as we laugh, they'd just think we're absolutely nuts!!

------ About the song The Rose performed by Bette Midler
When I first bought this disc and slipped it into my CD player, I had not yet read any of the liner notes. When "Sisters" started playing, I nearly wrecked my car! To think, two of my favorite vocalists--together! This mixture of classic vocals and classic vocal styles seems to have been grossly overlooked by everyone. It should have received a Grammy! Perhaps it was dismissed as a novelty tune, but it made me want more. Just as Bette Midler's pairings with Dolly Parton on the former's shortlived TV show. We have always known that Linda Ronstadt can blend with just about any great voice (would love to hear her with Tony Bennet, K D Lang or Streisand) but we don't often hear Bette Midler with other voices. Perhaps it's time for Bette to do a 'duets' disc.
Bette Midler Raw | Reviewer: Matt
------ About the song Birds performed by Bette Midler
I always liked this song from her Live At Last LP, but only after rediscovering it on iTunes do I really appreciate what it was that caught my ear in the 1970s. This Bette Midler singing "Birds" is a far cry from the Bette Midler singing her schmaltzy 90s ballads. Birds is raw and real. A close listen reveals why Ms. Midler has had such a long career. She has some real rock chops and knows how to move her vocal around a range of emotions. Worth a close listen.
Amazing Song | Reviewer: Jade

This is just - no other way to express it- an amazing song. It's got so many hidden meaning's and I remember the first time I ever heard it. It's stuck in my head for so many years.
Tears that won't go away | Reviewer: Steve Butten
------ About the song Surabaya Johnny performed by Bette Midler
This was one of Bette Midler's finest performances on record. To this day it brings tears to my eyes, perhaps because it resonates so much with so many of my own experiences. Hearing it again today I heard the emotion in her voice and the amazing piano work of (of all people) Barry Manilow (with whom she is now recording again after 30 years), and it still works after 30 years.
This Kurt Weill song was originally in German where it appeared in the play "Happy End" by Bertold Brecht. I note that it has also been recorded by Marianne Faithful, but I've never heard that version and I can't imagine she could have portrayed the same emotions that Bette Midler puts into the song.

Review: Bette Midler's Song "Every Road Leads Back to You" | Reviewer: Alex Krauth
------ About the song Every Road leads back to you performed by Bette Midler
I love this song a lot and think the lyrics are absolutely beautiful. If you look at the lyrics and think that a couple of lines are not correct, it's because I submitted a cover version of the song by two Hawaiian singers: Keali`i Reichel and Robi Kahakalau. If you want to hear their version, you can find it on Keali`i's second album, "Lei Hali'a." I love their version as well; they both have beautiful voices, and they blend very nicely. I hope you can check it out. Thanks.
