[There is a man in this world who has never smiled
You may know his tragedy, the later years by heart
In the beginning there was a mother, father and a child
A troubled little silent boy whose life they were to destroy
Known to us from this day on by his father, Caleb]
His mother came up with such a clever way to save the day with a little white lie.
He thinks he missed the point back then, but now he's grown to understand it, in a way.
"Father said "I'm sorry" only once, as I remember"
"Words weren't meant to hurt, only destroy you, my stupid son..."
One person can make a difference, sometimes...
Just turn his head when the kid is still and has a weak neck.
Smiled at his funeral, "happy you're dead."
All his solutions, it seemed, were only problems in disguise
Glueing on his drinkin´ face, got ready to erase another day...
Mother was yet confident, although they had it tight, taught her son
At the end of every tunnel shed a little light
Cause the light was her hope, that everything would be fine one day
"He can't fulfill his every dream, I’m happy as long as he’s not."
"I hate it and fear can't face it
the child is not fine his my great mistake.
Go out, create thunder, and stand right under
That old apple tree
Where the snakes let him feed on
Lost hopes, all those kind words could hurt him even more, now
Somehow, lost one more way back home
Out on the lake, he rows towards a monster he should’ve been running away from, years ago.
The past had made him blind to the way he’d turned the pain into a way of life.
Although his father, tucked him in, Caleb knows the shame.
He’s the portrait of a man his mother drew to hate forever.
She was a beast, a deadly saint, wrong in many ways
Wanted to keep up the charade, until the end waltzing together
Over the hills, under the sea,
Fighting the will, whole Universe
Why does a man driving a hearse
Live in a fear, Gift and a Curse
Taking ´em out, taking ´em all,
Shooting the wall, over and out
When nothing moves, all’s well,
A decision he can find a way to live with
... and dried up flowers are so beautiful.
And it applies to all things living, and dead.
For that I serve my time... in my suite in Hell.
[Solo]
"Now I ring the bell to tell the world,
I'm ready when they bring out the soon to be dead against the wall ..."
This necessary evil has no heart
Flowers and people he will now enlace
A price he must pay serving a cold
... whatevergod.

Review about Caleb =3 | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/24/09
As I see it, Caleb's father want's him dead but his mother save him and trick the father into beliving he's dead. So the mother raise Caleb in secret, but she's not the caring mother Caleb want's to belive she is. She hates Caleb and his father, who she raised Caleb to be a portrait of. She then manipulates Caleb into killing his father.
And all this is the background story to the story told in The End Of This Chapter, Don't Say A Word and Juliet.
I think it's awesome and I've really enjoyed following it. It's interesting how it's been spread out over so many years. But I suppose it's ended with Juliet and his death.
mi Caleb's meaning | Reviewer: sinho | 4/28/09
under my point of view the song talks about a scared woman because of his husband. He hates their son, and show her the way of killing him. But she cannot do it and hide their son in the field, but tight (mother was yet confident). The father thing that his son is death (smile at his funeral, happy you're dead) but it's not true. One day the parents go to the lake and Caleb find them and kill his father (in the same way that his father teach his wife how to do it)
mi english is horrible and i don't know if that's the right meaning of the song. Please answer, Thanks!
On Caleb and Unia | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/23/08
Personally one of my three favorite songs on Unia along with It Won't Fade an My Dream's But Fuel For A Nightmare. I agree with everyone who says Caleb is a really moving song with haunting lyrics and a beautiful melody.
However, I'm going to disagree with everyone who says Unia isn't their best album. I don't think it contains any superb songs but I think as an album it works better than any of their previous works.
Regardless, Sonata Arctica as always fails to disappoint.
Oh my god! Sonata has done it again. I love all of the music they make. But this song makes you question the reason that we become parents. My daughter is four months old, and the first time I actually listened to this song, I cried my heart out. It is a great song, and Tony truly has a way of wrenching the heart with the passion that he puts into his music. A truly soulful song! Ten out of five stars for the entire Unia album!!!

This is an excellent song. And I can kind of see how it goes with "Don't Say a Word" especially with the manipulative voice of the mother.

Sonata Arctica is The Best Power Metal/Heavy Matel Band In The World!!
Allways Making Deep And Geniuse Music.
Unlike most bands today, the album Unia contains meaningful lyrics that add up to something. It's not easy to implement thoughtful lyrics with kickass music, but Sonata Arctica has obviously done it. I can't stop listening to their new album. :]
Epic song. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/31/07
This is a great song. For those of you who don't know what it's about, it's been stated by Tony Kakko that it's about the childhood of the guy from Don't Say A Word, that song being "his tragedy, the later years". He follows his father, tucks him in, his trade is the art of stalking someone. From what I understand looking at the lyrics, looks like his mother slowly manipulated him into stalking and killing his father. "It's not how long you live, but what your morals say..."
Agreed. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/29/07
Personally I agree, this isn't their best album, but it still kicks ass. I guess I'm just drawn to this song because my name happens to be Caleb.
