I believe this song evokes such a powerful reaction because when one considers the feeling of letting go of life and finally being presented with a simple answer to the question "is there more" they get a sense of the overwhelming relief and then in turn a realization of just how much fear has been suppressed. clearly this can be reflected in one of the most important factors in life that almost every one struggles with the fear to act. and its probably most likely the intended idea that one wants to let go of their self doubts and find out if that person that fills their mind rely does feel the same way and the similar tremendous relief and overjoy that comes with that. That includes the ultimate high of letting go of ones' self and falling in love. The way i see it is that he has had his heart broken. The worse pain you can feel in life is loving someone with all you have and then losing them. After that for awhile you feel impervious to all other pain like nothing else in the world can hurt you as much as that.
