Carmelita Lyrics
Artist(Band):Warren Zevon
I hear Mariachi static on my radio
And the tubes they glow in the dark
BUT YOU'RE THERE in Ensenada
And I'm STUCK here in Echo Park
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Well, I'm sittin' here playing solitaire
With my pearl-handled deck
The county won't give me no more methadone
And they cut off your welfare check
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Every time I hear the sirens wail
you know I almost have the heart attack
and her b-big samoan boyfriend says he's gonna
come and break my back
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Well, I pawned my Smith-Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the Pioneer chicken stand
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin

Review about Carmelita
W. Zevon, meet Elliott Smith | Reviewer: Carolyn Bongiorno | 11/17/2007 Call me crazy, but Warren Zevon's "Carmelita" sounds like a cri de coeur channeled almost 25 years later by the troubled Elliott Smith in his songs of desperation. Desperation and loneliness, drug abuse and estrangement from one's lover and Echo Park as the background...how little things have changed. Miss you both.
