Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend
Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all
Victim of what said should be
A servant `til I fall
[Chorus:]
Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
but he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Do just as we say
Finished here, Greeting Death
He's yours to take away
Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman
[End Chorus]
Barking of machinegun fire, does nothing to me now
Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you wear, glory seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see
The slaughter never ends
[Chorus]
{Why, Am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, Hell is here} x2
I was born for dying
Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
had no chance to see myself, molded day by day
Looking back I realize, nothing have I done
left to die with only friend
Alone I clench my gun

Review about Disposable Heroes my fucking take | Reviewer: Tyler | 12/31/09
Okay, this song is great, but why the hell are all of you arguing about it. we all have our own views, like mine: this song is fucking wicked on the guitar, because of its switching, and reppitition.
love this fucking song | Reviewer: ben starr | 12/11/09
I really like what this song conveys lyrically- I've been listening to it alot since Obama decided to send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan. Good for him that he didn't make this decision in August- otherwise he wouldn't have won the Nobel Peace Prize. But yeah, the message in this song is dead-on, and it's really enhanced by the quality of the music. This song changes rhythm constantly, and Kirk's solo is awesome on this track. Great song by a great band.
Its about.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/3/09
... the expectations from militant families and dying for the approval of some twisted war hero fathers and the little high rank birdies that manipulate their thinking that say their sons should die for their country, true cause, fundraiser,or whatever, and make poor Johnny think it's cool.
The point is the detailed description of the young soldiers last hours on the field.
Soldiers become oil stains on killing fields ...nameless,faceless,but still someones child.
To Dave... | Reviewer: MJ | 10/26/09
Dave, seriously. You are a fucking idiot. If you hate Metallica so much, then why are you here? Every band is a sellout you dumbass. The point of being a musician is to sell yourself to the fans. Would you take 100,000 dollars or 1 million dollars? Exactly, shut up, leave and let us real Metallica fans enjoy Metallica. Ass fucker.
Disposable Heroes | Reviewer: Ros | 8/1/09
I think this song doesn't refer to any Government. The main idea is that war is shit. Nowadays wars is just an opportunity for some fuckers to earn money. Soldiers die for nothing. A hundred years ago people gave lives for their motherland. Now we fight against some
imaginative threat. I love Metallica cause their songs make us to wake the fuck up and realize that.
Whatever happened to letting people come up with their own interpretations of things? There's no need to argue so vehemently. The thing that marks great art is that it can be seen on many levels as different things: this makes it universal and relative to all. Which is what makes it great. :D
Dave is an idiot | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/18/09

Its not about the Government controlling the soldiers. It's about their Commanders Ordering them around. to chose death over retreat. The government cant do shit to the Military. It's the high and mighty Generals.
this song is mainly about how the government controls everything(having to do with the army) and how you can get sucked into such harsh conditions and be stuck there without control(servant til i fall).......it also depicts a message of hopelessness once in the army and shows that it is not all it's thought up to be....another song war ensemble, has to do with the grusomeness of war as well..........
The Albums! | Reviewer: J0kerking | 6/22/09
Its weird how people think Master of Puppets is all about drugs and their control. But the album was about just controlling things. This song for example was about the governments control over the soldiers.. Puppets was about drugs.. and Leper Messiah was religion. I love how the early Metallica albums had themes! Like Master was about control.. Justice was all about our freedoms. Its just so greet! It gives song lots of meaning.
