Downtown Lyrics - Lady Antebellum

Lady Antebellum-Downtown-Lyrics
Well, all the parties on the streets are talking, store front mannequins sleeping in lights.
We used to smoke while we were jaywalking like it was your birthday every other saturday night.
Knew The bands so we never payed our cover.
Wrote our names on the bathroom tiles.
We never dressed to impress all the others,
They would let us in on a laid back kind of style.
But Boy you know it's been a while.

I don't know why you don't take me down town like you got anywhere better to be.
Talk it up and give me the go round round like a good time tease.
I'm only counting on your cancellation,
Then I should be countin on you at my door.
Did you forget about how we went around,
I don't know why you don't take me downtown anymore.
Ohhhhhhhh anymore.

I got some platforms sitting in the corner.
They wanna stroll on a city sidewalk.
I got a dress that'll show a little uhhh uh but you ain't getting uhh ohh if you don't come pick me up (damn),
Show me off (wow), you might be tired but I'm not!

And I don't know why you don't take me down town like you got anywhere better to be.
Talk it up and give me the go round round like a good time tease.
I'm only counting on your cancellation,
Then I should be countin on you at my door.
Did you forget about how we went around,
I don't know why you don't take me downtown anymore.

I don't know why you don't take me down town like you got anywhere better to be.
Talk it up and give me the go round round like a good time tease.
I'm only counting on your cancellation, then I should be countin on you at my door.
Did you forget about how we went around,
I don't know why you don't take me downtown anymore.
Ohhh anymore. Yeaaaaah don't know why you don't take me downtown,
I don't know why you don't take me downtown anymore.
I just don't get it

Title: Downtown
Songwriters: Hemby/Laird/McAnally
Release Date: January 22nd
  • Lady Antebellum released a new single, "Downtown," to country radio on Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2013). The track is the lead release from their upcoming album. No release date or title for that album has been announced. The trio will perform it on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Monday (Jan. 28, 2013) and The Talk on Feb. 6. "There's some sass to this track that makes it really fun to sing. ... It's definitely a 'roll down the windows and bob your head' kind of thing," said Lady A's Hillary Scott. "We thought it was a fun way to launch the next record and a fitting preview of what's to come."

  • Lady Antebellum are putting the final touches on their fourth studio album, due this spring, and if the lead single “Downtown” is any indication — and Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood say it definitely is — it’s going to be a fun one.

On the song, which EW is streaming exclusively below, Scott sings lead and sassily asks why her partner doesn’t take her out and show her off anymore. (There’s a playfulness we haven’t heard on a Lady A single since “Lookin’ for a Good Time.”)

Listen after the jump, and find out what they have to say about why this album is different, what they have in common (or not) with a certain PBS television phenomenon, and why their recently-announced CMT Crossroads pairing with Stevie Nicks will be awesome.
