Dropkick Murphys "Blackout"
The Dropkick Murphys' uncompromising spirit and matchless
energy surge through Blackout, the Boston-based, Celtic
punk outfit's triumphant new album. From the urgent and
irresistible opener "Walk Away" – which takes to task a
father who abandons his family – to the superb, bagpipe
doused blue collar homage "Worker's Song," the Dropkick
Murphys continues to build off of the musical blueprint it
began with back in 1996.
Perhaps the hard charging, chant along "Gonna Be A Blackout
Tonight" best represents just how far the Dropkick Murphys
have come. When approached a year ago by Woody Guthrie's
daughter Nora with the prospect of putting some of her
legendary father's unpublished lyrics to music, the net
result was the fiery punk firecra More...

I love this song, its the best thats ever been.
And about Willie McBride, I'm not going to swear that this is true but I'm pretty sure that they've looked it up and there was no William McBride who was born that year and died in that battle. There were some William McBride's in that battle but no one the age that they sing of.

Is one of my favorite songs. Dot care what the meaning it has it will always have a meaning to me that i will never forget. I have had it played at two funerals for fallen comrades and close friends. Rest in peace my friends and watch over the rest that you have left behind we will meet again on the other side. You are in are hearts and minds and never forgotten. From your comrades Friends and loved ones.

I love this song, and for the ass the posted before me, its okay if your parents raised you a yankees fan, I know you are suffering, but hey, i thing the Pirates are in need of fans. And if you hate the song, why did you search for the lyrics?

------ About the song I'm Shipping Up To Boston performed by Dropkick Murphys
They suck. Should be called the "Dropdick Murphys." The intro instrumental is alright but it's not original. So many bands do one instrument playing then another, etc. And the lyrics have and always sucked like Tessie. The song is just so obnoxious screaming "I'm sailor's peg". It just sounds retarted. Plus the ultimate retard/dick Jonathan Papelbon has this as his intro song at home games when he comes out to close.

------ About the song I'm Shipping Up To Boston performed by Dropkick Murphys
The opening instrumental and stuff is really good, but the lyrics are really, really gay. After the singer for Do or Die left, they shoulda quit. All Al Barr has ever done is make singles. I don't think he's made a single good album. I mean, I like Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya (Which was a cover), Tessie, and The Gang's All Here, but their cd's suck now.

top song. beats all the other versions with the drum beat. the song was written by a bloke who was born in scotland but moved to australia when he was 25. another well known song is "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda", another song that deals with war and its effect, from an anzac solider.

------ About the song The Gauntlet performed by Dropkick Murphys
I was reading the lyrics, and it reminds me a lot of Vietnam. "They're gonna come when you're not too well prepared" = Guerilla tactics used by the Vietcong. Then the first stanza is obviously about warfare. And he also says "When we're doing it their way, their aims will be achieved" which is similar to how the US fought the war the way the Vietcong wanted us to and the US government ultimately withdrew the military from Vietnam.

------ About the song Forever performed by Dropkick Murphys
My brother and his beautiful fiance (now wife)chose this as the song to dance to at their wedding. They tied the knot this past saturday August 8, 2009. It was perfect, there was barely a dry eye in the ballroom!

This is a beautiful song! Touching and sad, but beautiful! Dropkick Murphys does a wonderful version of it!
I really don't see the point about arguing about war on here... but just to get my two cents in and hopefully end some arguments...
(and this is totally just my opinion!!!!)
The way I see it is that yes, war is terrible, so many people die and we should find another way to solve disputes besides killing people over something we're just going to have to compromise over anyway... however... There are some circumstances caused by people that are not negotiable and sometimes not "sane". They will not simply talk and resolve a problem, they want to stir up other people and cause fights; and untill we can ALL find a way to calmly sort things out, war will continue. Unfortunatley there isn't a way to convince everyone that it would be better to negotiate instead of fight...

just to answer a few of the questions here on the first page of reviews, yes, the original song was Scottish (titled No Man's Land, by Eric Bogle). Although the song is Scottish, Willie McBride was a private in an Irish regiment, possibly buried in Authuille British Cemetary?. There were a lot of Willie McBride's who died, though, so I'm not completely sure which one the song is about.

------ About the song Last Letter Home performed by Dropkick Murphys
This song was inspired by the death of Sgt. Andrew Farrar. As you can tell by the song, he was a Dropkick Murphys fan, and his family wrote to the band after he died expressing what a big fan of them he was. The band was so touched that they actually came to and played "The Fields of Athenry" at his burial. They also wrote this song in honor and memory of him.

------ About the song Boys On The Docks performed by Dropkick Murphys
This is another great song by Dropkick Murphys about our nations birth. "Johnny" is most likely a reference to Johnny Tremain, a legendary and symbolic figure of the American Revolution.
Boys On The "Docks" is probably a reference to the Boston Tea Party, as Dropkick Murphys is a Boston based band, and Johnny Tremain was said to have taken part in the tea party.
They embody the entire spirit of the American Revolution into Johnny in this song, as in he fought for our independence along with thousands of others. Great song.
Great song with lots of historical Boston references | Reviewer: Sky
------ About the song Tessie performed by Dropkick Murphys
Great song by the Murphys, such devotion. It has alot of references to historical Red Sox figures.
For example "Nuf Ced" McGreevy is a reference to Michael T. McGreevy, the owner of the 3rd base saloon and leader of the loyal Red Sox fan club the "Royal Rooters". He earned the name McGreevy by the way he kept peace in his bar; when he grew frustrated with arguments over the Red Sox and the Braves he would pound on the bar and declare "Nuff said!"
Stahl, Dineen, and Young are all Red Sox players.

------ About the song The Green Fields Of France performed by Dropkick Murphys
This is such a beautiful song...I don't think I've really heard a bad version of it atall!
And...Yes almost all of the DKM's bloodline's trace to Ireland.
The writer was Scottish but the subjects name is Irish!
It's about both sides though.... same as every war.... the powers that be....talk the young and naive into doing their dirty work. Promise them the world...and build them up into machines...till the reach the battle field...and there's no turning back!
War is not pointless of course... it's just the way they are run that isn't pretty...but...we'd not have any bit of relative "freedom" here in Ireland today if we'd not fought...same as North America same as quite alot of nations!
History is of course dictated by the victor... but... right now!..that doesn't even matter... (almost)The entire media is owned by a small elite...and thus..makes it (almost)impossible to know anything about what's going on in reality in wars across the world!!
Are these "terrorists" living in caves and out smarting everyone?!?!
Is Bin Laden a cia/fbi agent?!?!
What actually happened in 9/11?!?!
And yea... . . the media!!... . . .history will again...be dictated by the "victor" ( greatest liar!)

------ About the song The Walking Dead performed by Dropkick Murphys
It's about learning from the mistakes of others; or more accurately, our inability to learn from the mistakes of others. Every generations has the same problems and issues, but these problems can never really be solved from the warnings and advice of past generations, because we have to learn about them ourselves.
"it's a tale you gotta live to know."
theres a few songs that arn't original that they have, johnny i hardly knew ya wasn't original and neither is this one, its the different way of singing it and the different sound they give that makes them "something special"
This song is beautiful, touching, and obviously sad. I will have to listen to the original as well. I know the original is Scottish but was Willie McBride an Irishman? Been trying to look it up...I couldn't piece it together from the reviews here.
