Echo And The Bunnymen emerged from the legendary late-70s
Liverpool punk scene, melding the rawness and vitriol of
CBGB-styled New York punk with 60s influences (most notably
The Doors and The Velvet Underground). For the first half
of the 80s, the band were accurately regarded as the
vanguards of English post-punk.
The songwriting team of Ian "Mac"
McCulloch and Will Sergeant has mangaged to escape such
easy pigeonholing, and has proven itself to be in the same
timeless league as Jagger/Richards, Lennon/McCartney, and
Reed/Cale.
Mac remains the thinking person's rock icon, exuding an
effortless cool, alien otherness, and unmatchable
quotability. The sheer emotive expanse of his vocals is
inimitable, and his unique (often oblique) lyrics are equal

------ About the song The Killing Moon performed by Echo & The Bunnymen
im 15, i wish i was around when this song came out, because its so close to my heart. the killing moon was the boy i love the most in the world's song- we loved it. we decided the song was about a girl and a boy who were in love, and the boy killed himself. perhaps they had a death pact, and the girl knows the boy will 'so soon take her', even though its 'against her will'
the girl sees the boy in her dreams, where he kisses her and lures her towards him. 'he will wait until, you give yourself to him'
this song is constantly playing on my stereo. the boy i love the most in the world- it is our song. the boy i love the most in the world killed himself two weeks ago. perhaps ill see him under a blue moon, or a starlit night where he'll cruelly kiss me one day.
i absolutely LOVE this song ,, it is mii favourite 1 out of all of them + mii uncle is will sergeant !!! he writes all the songs + im going 2 sing this song wen i go + see him + i will sing it in his studio at his house !! ++ i will meet mii cusins + mi antie !!!! i cant wait !!!! xxx
I was a big fan of new wave bands during that 80's era. There were so many bands during that time but would you believe that UNTIL NOW (more the 20yrs), I'm still amazed by E&TBM music (i.e Killing Moon, Bring on the dancing horses, paint it black, seven seas, etc.)..Ian/Mac the mouth is really a great singer...he has a great voice. Wish they could visit the Philippines soon. Long live E&TBM. Thank you.

------ About the album Reverberation performed by Echo & The Bunnymen
Echo and the Bunnymen, way back when, sort of surprised us at the time and release "Reverberation", an Album of songs I still avidly listen to!! The songs "reverberate" with the resonance of an exotic, powerfully-subdued voice and expert musicianship, taking the listener from the highest apex to the slow and remorse. "Reverberation" is a wonderful collection of diverse sounds and moods, truly a masterpiece accomplishment by Echo & The Bunnymen!!!

------ About the song The Killing Moon performed by Echo & The Bunnymen
I'm sixteen and my <i>mother</i> put me onto Echo And The Bunnymen... and she was right. I don't tend to believe her but I really should have that time and not waited to hear this song in Donnie Darko.
It's just amazing, it gives me the chills too...
This song came along when I first started college. Its extremely cool and serene and like most songs that stick in my mind it reinforces a memory I had of arguably the most beautiful girl I ever dated (Lori C.). Cie la vie.

I totally agree with reviewer HH. It definately takes me back to an amazing time in my life. One of those songs that gives me chills everytime I hear it even in 90 degree weather. Used brilliantly in Donnie Darko which I recommend if you haven't seen it also...

------ About the song Show of Strength performed by Echo & The Bunnymen
I have to agree with the above review. The only reason for checking the lyrics here in 2007 is to check that it really was "And those sadly things/Is always a sadly thing". And of course it was.
Why I should care all these years later, and to try and figure out what it really means might ruin my enjoyment of the music. Thanks stanislars for the timely reminder to just flaming well enjoy it. To analyse it would be a sadly thing!

------ About the song The Killing Moon performed by Echo & The Bunnymen
He was standing in the shadows of a Bristol sidestreet one night, actually feeling some self loathing, feeling like some werewolf stalking his victim, when it was actually a boy he had a crush on that he was kind of stalking. He was killing time waiting for the boy to come out of a disco. Then the boy came out with another boy and they got on a motorcycle and left. It was then that Ian looked up at the moon and wished he had a machine gun, thinking it was time to kill.

------ About the song Porcupine performed by Echo & The Bunnymen
Damned if I know what the lyrics mean, but I always thought the second half of this song was the most psychedelic sounding bit in their whole catalog. The word play here is almost like Liz Fraser's, too bad so much of it at the end is undeciphered....
