Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie Stewart are the funky divas
behind the neo-soul duo, Floetry. Ambrosius and Stewart
emerged in the mid-nineties as songwriters in demand.
They're behind some of the new millennium's biggest hits,
too. The pair has written tracks for Michael Jackson, Jill
Scott, Glenn Lewis and Bilal. While they're highly
respected behind the scenes, Floetry is their way of moving
up front. Ambrosius is the songstress to Stewart's
spoken-word impresario or "floacist" role. The two met due
to their love of basketball. Stewart, who hails from
London, was superstar on her court while Ambrosius wowed
fans in her local English neighborhood. They were
competitive, but not rivals, so a friendship was formed.
Music was also a passion. Ambrosius relished in her More...

    Review about Floetry

A song about reality not being what we think it is | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Sunshine performed by Floetry

I know sometimes we ummm, we don't recognize our dreams inside
our reality and uh other times we're not aware of exactly
what's real ya know we walk around day dreaming but the sunshine, the sunshine always is.... and I

**(This is the beginning where she is telling us that this song is about a dream, about a non-reality, and that you can't take everything at face value).

    [Chorus:]
I just wanna see my lovely sunshine(Sunshine)
I just wanna bring back all of my blue skies
And if you take away my rainbow I will cry(cry)
    Give me back my sunshine

**(Chorus: about a person crying out that they will die/cry if you take away their truelove. If that true love dies and goes to heaven. You can say it's about a man and a woman. Or you can take it a step further and based on the gay-ish Floetry rumours say that the chicks or Floetry are singing it for/to each other. Usually songs sung by women are clearly hetero and here, it is not. No "him" no "he" no mention of "strong arms" or "protection" things usually associated with men, instead the talk about "lovely sunshine" and "rainbows" are actually very feminine references. Whatevs, a beautiful song whether gay or straight, and probably intentionally ambiguous).

Dreaming my state of being and I see you smiling youi're so happy just laughing and standing strong I'm missing you right
here Listen to my tears I'm waking up to skies so gray
Needing you to brighten up my day

(The person is lamenting the fact that they are sick/injured and dying in the hospital. They are liking the fact that their partner is being strong for them. They are crying because they know they are leaving this earth and this person they love).

Ok listen catch your breath cool out you need to calm down (that's right)
Concentrate don't go making all your time run out
See your ok it looks much worse than it really is,
and you'll pull through come on you know how we be doing this
It's me and you yo, you promised you can't pull out now,
We're friends for life so you can't just sell me out
We shared a lot but you know we'll see just so much more
Our wedding day and the children that we prayed for

**(Here's where the person that is not dying is telling the other person to calm down, hold on, don't worry they'll pull through. They will be alright, they're gonna make it. The only reference to a hetero event (marriage and children) may be read here, though nowadays in some states and countries gay peeps can get married, and many can adopt. She's saying not to cry and make the time run out (mind over matter)).

    [Chorus]

I used to depend on your eyes to show me the way that I should go
My reality is blurry I'm afraid of being all alone
Your light has been my guide throughout the good and bad
I wish that I had spent a little more attention to my one and only sunshine

(Original person further thinking about leaving the other person. Real talk about being afraid to be alone, that's real and most people are too prideful to admit that they "need" someone else. Here's a further indication that the reality we are hearing may not be what we think it is. If she is the dying one, why is she talking about depending on the (allegedly non-dying ones's eyes? Why would she be lamenting not paying more attention to the "sunshine?" Thats usually something people do once someone is sick or dying. Here we get a little glimpse that maybe there's something "wrong" with the other one who's in the picture and not the one who is currently singing).

Listen, I'd never leave you yo, I sweared on my grave
Damn what's that I'm feeling dizzy kinda getting faint
But it ain't nothing didn't sleep that much last night
From watching over you but none less I'm cool I'm fine
I said I'm feeling fine so back up off me I'm alright
I'm here to see my friends and what's up with that blinding light
Said I don't need to lie down I don't need your help right now
What's up with all the noises all the running round
You've got it wrong I'm not the one who needs the help in here
Yo, what's up with you, you're crying I see tears
Yo, what's going on don't leave please don't take her out
Said I don't understand I'm kinda feeling scared now
I said it's getting hard to breathe getting hard to see
\I'm not too sure anymore what's going on with me
Please bring her back connect me talk just one more time
But it's too late the last exhale is mine

(Here is the grand finale and confirmation for me that the song is gay-ish/lesbian-ic. Here all the activity is what one would expect in an emergency room if someone were coding. Blinding lights, noises, running round. Since this character doesn't know she's dying, she's confused and saying "I'm not the one who needs the help in here." Obviously she thinks it's the other one that requires assistance. She is confused, but at the end her sight her hearing her heart is all stopping. The lesbian-ic part comes when she calls out for her "friend" the one who she promised "wedding days and children" to earlier. The lyric is explicit it says "bring her back" as in bring back my love that you rushed out of the room due to me coding out in the emergency room. But it's too late, the last exhale was hers ... not the original one we thought. THAT'S SICK!!!!!!!!

This song is soooooo sick, so lyrical, so beautiful, so poetic.

I love it, and I love my gay/bi songtress/lyricists (though I'm 100% straight) because they make be-yoo-ti-ful music together. Floetry come back, your fans truly miss you.

------ About the song Superstar (featuring Common) performed by Floetry

to the person who wanted to know what this song means, i too love this song i think that when she says this is a message to my brother from my mother, it means to her fellow black men out their from the creator, meaning god.hoped this has helped you out a bit.

------ About the song Superstar (featuring Common) performed by Floetry

I think that when they refer to my brother it means fellow black man and the mother refers to the creator, god. so the song is about them declaring their love to a man, i think, hope this has helped.

------ About the song If I Was a Bird performed by Floetry

I absolutely love Floetry and "If I Was Bird" is my favorite song by them. I can't wait for them to put out their next album, I know they are probably working on it because they by far have too much talent not to be. Those of you who have not heard the song or their "Floetic" album need to go out and get it ASAP.
