Going to California Lyrics - Led Zeppelin
Review The Song (32)
Spent my days with a woman unkind, Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.
Made up my mind to make a new start, Going To California with an aching in my heart.
Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.
Took my chances on a big jet plane, never let them tell you that we're all the same.
The sea was red and the sky was grey; I wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.
The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake
as the children of the sun began to awake.
Seems that the wrath of the Gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;
I think I might be sinking.
Throw me a line if I reach it in time
I'll meet you up there where the path
Runs straight and high.
To find a queen without a king,
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings... la la la la
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born.
Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams,
Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;

This is the one that takes me away to some inner hidden places, nature land in another dimension. And it's all here. It's about lost love, lonelines... and many more things witch can't be put into words.

I remember listening to this as a teenager and having this mystical, magical image of a far away land known as California. I figured it must be a super cool place because all the neighborhood kids from the ET movie lived there and there was no way Robert Plant could be wrong. This couldn't be further from the truth. Urban Sprawl, Unforgiving Traffic, Sky high cost of living, out of control crime and immigration, poor economy, and asshole people everywhere (the list goes on) continue to make California a paradise lost. But one thing is for sure, this song will go on forever and will continue to influence lives. What a great tune!

I feel as though I am the girl in this song. I'm alone and waiting for someone. And I always wear a flower in my hair. I feel as though everytime I listen to this song, it will be the day someone will finally meet me and would have been listening to this song hoping to meet someone like me, too. This song makes me daydream very much.

This is one of my second Led Zeppelin song, and "Fool In the Rain" is one of my first Led Zeppelin song. This is acoustic song from the 1971's Led Zeppelin IV album. The other acoustic Led Zeppelin song from Led Zeppelin IV album is "The Battle of Evermore". John Bonham does not appear on this song, and "The Battle of Evermore" too. There is no drums on this song, and as well as "The Battle of Evermore".

Whatever any of bitches think this song means . . .you're all wrong. "Going to California" is slang for butt-hole licking. Man to woman butt-hole licking that is. Woman to man is called a "Grizzly", and it is not recommended. If you look closely at the words you will see what Robert is getting at. Obviously, his first swipe at a brown starfish inspired him to write this. Beautiful.
P.S. - If you're wondering what man to man butthole licking is called, listen to U2. . .Bono will tell you.

This song changes me everytime I hear it, so haunting & beautiful at the same time. Check out the version on the BBC session where Robert is still feeling out the lyrics. It is emotionally humbling.
