Hallelujah Lyrics

Review The Song (30)Print the Lyrics
Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
but love is not some victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah
There was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that it to me, do you?
Remember when I moved in you
The Holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

OK. great song. imogen heap is amazing in the way that she captivates you and holds you within the moment, the song, with only the use of her voice. its the fact that she can draw a tear so efortlessly and yet you can feel her meaning every word she sings. her lyrics and her voice are just amazing. i also heard this song first on the o.c but that was after my friend showed me some of her other work. this is a truely remarkable artist and will be forever admired for her talent and the awe she creates.

Mmmmmm | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/16/2007

This song used to make me so sad after I heard it on the OC Season 3 finale. i always used to cry when i heard because it's so sad, and because Marissa died :(. Now, lol, I can listen to it without tearing up but I still think she does such a good job with this song. Jeff Buckley's version's not as moving, but it fits for moments where Imogen Heap's does not. I wanted to really understand the lyrics of the song because even though it's short there's a lot to it, but is she basically expressing a sort of happiness because she met someone?? Throughout the song it goes from being alone to having that special person, to losing them, but why is she saying hallelujah if she's lost that? Is it because she's happy with the fact that they're just there with her, even if they're not romantically involved or something? Usually I don't think so much about the meaning of the lyrics as I'm doing now, btu I'm curious. I think it really relates to Ryan and Marissa's relationship on the OC, but can you help me out with the meaning outside the OC? Why is she still exclaiming a "hallelujah"

credit Leonard Cohen for Hallelujah, and check out Jeff Buckley's version | Reviewer: David | 8/25/2007

I fell in love with Imogen Heap's music (while already in love with Tori Amos' music) in 2000, listening to I Megaphone. Now on a new kick, starting with Speeding Cars, which I absolutely cannot stop playing over and over. Have bought many tracks from her new album and absorbing and loving them. Now I read that she has covered one of my favorite songs that I thought Jeff Buckley wrote. He was a musical god that needs to be spread and treasured. Leonard Cohen actually wrote the original, and I am dying to hear Imogen's version. Can't find it on Itunes. The search continues...
