That strikes me as he's saying, these people couldn't wait to die and so its not gonna be the same as people who could wait for their time. and then when he's talking about the "Spirit painted sin, Embers neath my skin,Veiled in pale embrace, Reached and touched my face." Opeth are lyrical gods when it comes to describing an emotion and no doubts they made it pretty clear in this song...and I love their acoustical playing, so unorthodox but beautiful! My beloved sent me this song, and it strikes me deeply. HE is one who'd send this to me and would mean every word. Our love is so hard. We are so far apart and he's asking me to be his, though different states. Pledge yourself to me , Never leave me be, Sweat breaks on my brow, Given time ends now. This could mean he's already dead emotionally, but still wants me to be with him. Or the other perspective is that the man in the song is dead, and wants his love to continue to pledge her love to him. The song is very romantic when you listen to the song it self, entwined with unwillingness to die, and longing. Idk. what do you think?
