Headlock Lyrics
Artist(Band):Imogen Heap
Distant flickerings,
It's greener scenery,
This weather's bringing it all back again.
Great adventures,
This isn't in condensation,
I'm going outside to take it all in.
Is it too late to start got your heart in a headlock,
I don't believe any of it.
Is it too late to start with your heart in a headlock,
You know you're better than this.
Wear a different pair,
Just something out of stead,
Throw a stranger an unexpected smile.
With big intention,
Still posted at your station,
Always on about the day it should have flied.
Is it too late to start got your heart in a headlock,
I don't believe any of it.
Is it too late to start with your heart in a headlock,
You know you're better than this.
(how can you lose?) Afraid to start, got your heart in a headlock, I don't believe any of it.
Is it too late to start with your heart in a headlock,
You know you're better than this.
You've been walking,
You've been hiding,
And you look half dead half the time.
Monitoring you, like machines do,
You've still got it I'm just keeping an eye. x2
You know you're better than this
Can't make a start, got your heart in a headlock,
but I don't believe any of it.
Is it too late to start, with your heart in a headlock,
You know you're better than this.
(how can you lose?) Afraid to start, got your heart in a headlock,
I don't believe any of it.
Is it too late to start, with your heart in a headlock,
You know you're better than this.

Imogen has a Heap of talent! | Reviewer: Fashion Police | 1/10/2008
Oh my gosh, the first song I heard was Hide And Seek. Both these songs are wonderful, Imogen putting her own style into them. They are so unique and not like any other music out there. I totally love her and thank her for many of my inspiration.

Got a HEADLOCK on me | Reviewer: Opera | 6/11/2007
This song is BRILLIANT. With it's subtle beginning and lovely strings, the listener would never expect the song to take a turn for the tough. Imogen seems to make the song out to be a sort of release for robust sound and delicate intricacies. It is absolutely one of her better songs. LISTEN TO IT NOW!
Sincerely,
Opera

I heard a 7 second sound clip of Frou Frou's "Let Go" in the movie "The Holiday"; it instantly grabbed my attention and once the movie was over I looked for the band label in the credits, went to Amazon and Walmart to search for all their albums... one thing they all had in common was the lead singers voicals (which I liked very much) so with a little more reading I found that this was Imogen Heap... I then search for all her records.
My favorite songs are "HeadLock", "Let Go" and "Sleep", of which I've must have played 40 times each over the past 24hours.
Her style is raw, not as much as Ani DiFranco but you get the idea. The best comparison is to Sade for silky smoothness. Dido for english ambient presence. Katie Melua and Leslie Feist for vocal pitch dynamics. Bjork for unique strangeness and Enya for whispery overlapping choruses.
She often wears wacky morning hairdo's with flowers and/or butterfiles in them and a dress out of the late 70's to mid 80's.
In summary very catchy and captivating. Go listen... "you have twenty seconds to comply!"
Headlock on My (Ears and Heart) | Reviewer: Old Ranger | 8/23/2006
When Imogen Heap sings and plays,it seems that people listen.
I first heard this song, and first heard of Imogen Heap, on XM Radio in AUG of 2006. I admit that I don't follow pop music, and that I'm an old fart.
I'd rather listen some old Roxy Music tunes or juicy Hendrix than just about anything else...
This song really caught me ear, and I presented something of a traffic hazard bending down in the car to see the LCD display on the XM receiver to see who the performer was. (got to move that darned thing)
The contrast between light airy sounds and much more thickly populated chorus orchestration, her sometimes whipery and often pure clear vocal delivery, the clean spare tonality of the bridge intro, all really got my attention.
Since hearing it I got some of her music and listened to most of it, and left a disc on the dining table for my (16 year old) daughter to find and check out.
She was surprised that I listen to Imogen Heap, having heard her "Midnight and Go" radio hit within the past year. My daughter is now considering using an Imogen Heap medley for a lyrical interpretive dance peformance that she is choreographing and dancing in later this year. She likes it a lot too.
I have listened to this song about 90 times in the past three weeks. I'm not a big fad music listener, and not a "frequent listener" of most tunes because I'm so old and, well, jaded.
This song, this melody, and now that I'm starting to understand the lyrics, the meaning, are very compelling. It just won't let me go,i guess.
I'd love to attend an Imogen Heap concert, but I live in a small town in Western Colorado and don't get to the big city much for concerts.
Imogen, if you or your management staff read this kind of fluff, perhaps you'd consider doing a show in Steamboat Springs? If you ski or snowboard, we can make you a happy girl this Winter, no doubt.
This song is just damned addictive, and the others on the album "Speak For Yourself" are very pleasing also, some more, some less, all fersher do not suck.
Try it, and you will also be hooked on her wit, her charming voice, her kewl use of samples as instruments (the bass line in the wrapup is male human voices singing "BAum Baum Baum"), and her wonderful turn of phrase.
It's not earth-shattering, nor particularly "pertinent" or revolutionary, but is is damn good entertainment and juicy ear candy.
She's also a vey attractive lady, in an intruiging fashion that I cannot quite describe. You'll have to Google her to see her photos, and that is worth the time.
Now my ugly admission: I have downloaded everyting that I have heard so far of Imogen Heap's music. To validate the concept of free web downloads stimulating more CD sales, I intend to go straight to my local music store and buy this album, partly cuz the moron that ripped the .MP3s on the web hosed the right channel with some ugly fuzz jitter that pisses me off.
MAINLY THOUGH, Imogen Heap is a musical talent that deserves to make the big bucks, and she can have some of mine, now that know how much I love her music.
Acquire, Listen, Enjoy.
Sincerely,
The Old Ranger
